495 Hair of the deceased (1/2)
As the saying goes, all is revealed once a connoisseur judges.
Upon observing how Blacksail moved in the water, Sheyan understood he wasn’t simply bragging.
Biting a pitch-black knife in his mouth, Blacksail quickly swarm to Sheyan’s side before maintaining a vigilant protection.
The pitch-black seawater stretched out endlessly, appearing like the bottomless abyss; hidden beneath, were countless untold perils.
Treading along the water surface, Sheyan took a deep breath before diving towards the bottom of the ship; while borrowing the incandescence of the torches above.
Within the deeper regions of the sea, he could discern numerous smooth black chains coiling together, stretching towards the ship’s bow in concentrated interwoven fashion. Indeed, this was the culprit hindering their voyage.
Sheyan directly swam towards those black chains with bold audacity. As he approached, he inspected them while borrowing the incandescence from above.
How could this be a black chain? It was probably a vegetation of the sea that had woven together densely; like the braids of a young maiden.
These chains indeed appeared like drenched hair of the deceased; resembling chopped kelps that hadn’t been dried by the sun. They dispersed an extremely pungent odour, leaving one nauseating.
Sheyan reached out his hand, as a dreadfully chilling yet durable elasticity lingered around his hand.
”This seems like something I’ve seen before.” Sheyan suddenly recalled his maiden voyage in the present world. Sailing across the atlantic ocean for the first time, they had coincidentally passed through the widely acclaimed and enigmatic Bermuda Triangle. That time, their captain had deviated from their route to receive his secret smuggling goods, and headed westward along the Gulf of Mexico.
This was a sea route few ships had travelled on. Sheyan themselves didn’t encounter anything strange; only an impressive spectacle, and that was a ‘grassland’ on the ocean.
The depth of the sea was over 4,000 metres, without a single island in sight. Yet at that particular region, it was thriving with luscious rootless green water plants – Sargassum, a grand prairie of it; driven by the ocean current and sea breeze.
Those floating sargassum resembled an expansive olive rug, stretching into the vast distant. The quantity of Sargassum was simply innumerable, encompassing over hundreds of square kilometres.
Right now, these large black chains appeared analogous to those Sargassum he encountered of the real world. Except, the current was tens of folds amplified that of the former! This was possibly a relative vegetation of the Sargassum, but in the caribbean sea world.
They had propagated in bulk throughout the season here, like female and male ‘plants’ interlocked and jamming up the voyaging path. Hence, though such scene appeared strange, breaking it would make it worthless.
At this moment, Blacksail had swam over. Similarly, he sampled touching those ‘Sargassum’, before he shrugged his shoulders.
Although his body language revealed his reluctance, he still gripped his biting knife, and swept forth horizontally. The knife he held was terribly sharp, and he sliced it into two.
Yet the strangest thing happened.
The severed opening of the sargassum started releasing pulses of mild black fluids; swiftly fumigating into the seawater like fumes. Instantaneously, the surrounding sargassum speedily gathered and wrapped around Blacksail.
Wrapped inside the chains, One-eyed Blacksail’s body was utterly bundled. Although he retained some strength to wrestle free, it was a case of shredding but never ending. The more he tore apart, the more he felt the tendency of these vile chains to bundle around him.
Sheyan was about to reach out in aid, yet Blacksail immediately beckoned him not to; waving for Sheyan to swim away.
Then, Sheyan watched on as this understated but knowledgeable pirate unhurriedly released his the grip of his knife shaft. From within his hands, tiny egg sized granules wafted out.
These eggs swiftly adhered onto the surface of these enormous sargassum, before they commenced incubating; rapidly forming into ping pong size black beetles.
These beetles had springy long legs, and moved carefreely inside the water. Then, they began nibbling onto these sargassum; just like silkworms gnawing on leaves, their appetites were amazing.
In no time, the surrounding enormous sargassum were clean chewed away.
Witnessing such a scene, Sheyan faintly nodded; enlightened that Blacksail was indeed a talent. It seemed like his methods skewed towards witchcraft of the Voodoo cult. If he could exercise this subordinate, it could possibly overcome the deficiency of his party’s lack of a mage contestant.
But at this moment, Mogensha suddenly yelled frantically into the party channel.
”Boss! Hurry back up the ship, what are you doing down there? A large dude has seemingly appeared!”
While Brother Black yelled, he targeted and volleyed a flare shell into the distant water.
Instantly, Sheyan and Blacksail could behold an astounding mass of sargassum nets afar, where a massive shadow was rapidly encroaching in. Countless bubbles were wrapped around that shadow, as it released an impression of a dark gloomy cloud bearing through the sky.
Furthermore, the shadow was seemingly gradually dissolving like ink, with unceasing fluctuations encompassing its body!
All of a sudden, Blacksail’s eyes popped widely. Noticing his reaction, it seemed like he recognized that thing.
Immediately, Sheyan gestured fiercely towards him to return to the ship. When the two popped out of the water surface, Blacksail urgently called.
”Careful, that be a Chupacabra!!”
Sheyan was intrigued.
”What is that?”
Blacksail gravely replied.
”A massive sea beast that drifts between the edge of life and death. It be said, the Chupacabra’s appearance represents a tremendous catastrophe. Cap’n, this hair of the deceased be guarded by the Chupacabra, we shouldn’t risk incurring its wrath by forcefully pressin’ forward.”
”This the conclusion of me understandin’ from the stories me heard. The Chupacabra really enjoys the fruits of this hair of the deceased, while the hair of the deceased requires at most half a day to bear fruit. Putting it bluntly, this monster be leavin’ in six hours. Then, we can boldly proceed to chop away the hair of the deceased to pass through.”
