Chapter 27 (1/2)
The sound of the footsteps gradually approached Lily.
Although she did not know what was going on, out of instinct, she chose to walk away from the sound of the footsteps.
However, when she walked away, her body froze again.
Thud!
Her light step made a loud sound once again.
And after the sound of her actual footsteps, the footsteps that seemed to be chasing after her started to speed up a little.
Behind her, there seemed to be a wild beast hiding in the dark that was chasing after her.
Under this huge pressure, Lily did not hesitate at all.
She immediately took off the high heels on her feet and decided to run barefoot.
However, she had only taken a few steps when her heart grew more and more panicked.
Thud, thud, thud!
Lily, who had taken off her shoes and socks, stepped on the wooden floor of the library with her bare feet. Surprisingly, there were still echoing footsteps.
This was no longer something that could be regarded as a simple ‘something’s not right’.
There was clearly a ghost!
“Shit!” Lily cursed in a low voice. Carrying her high heels and notebook, she ran forward.
The footsteps behind her became more and more hurried.
She did not have time to worry about that.
Lily had an inexplicable but very strong premonition in her heart—if these footsteps caught up to her, she would die!
…
Tap, tap, tap…
Tap, tap, tap, tap…
The footsteps echoed in the empty library along with Lily’s heavy breathing.
At this time, Lily had already tossed her high heels and notebook and was walking barefoot in the library.
Her tears were all over her face, but she covered her mouth tightly, not daring to make a sound.
Her dry throat was hurting, but now, she could not care less for she had discovered a terrible truth.
She could not escape!
Lily had been moving between the bookshelves in the library, but she could never find the exit.
About five minutes ago, she had already walked to the end of the path between the bookshelves.
The end of the path was the same as usual, a wall made up of bookshelves and books.
However, when Lily walked along the wall of bookshelves, she could not seem to reach the end of the path.
No matter how far she walked, no matter where she turned, she just could not seem to leave the area.
[Fear points: +50.]
The sound of the footsteps behind her made her extremely terrified and flustered.
Not to mention, this library that she could not seem to leave made her feel extremely desperate and helpless.
Finally, Lily sat on the ground dejectedly, allowing the footsteps to approach her from behind.
Originally, the desire to survive gave her the energy to continue running forward.
However, she could not escape no matter how hard she tried.
She had no more energy left.
The footsteps behind her kept approaching, and Lily finally stopped hiding. She broke down and began to wail in despair.
At this critical moment, a familiar voice suddenly came from in front of her, not too far away from where Lily was.
“Lily, is that you?”
The owner of this voice was Lily’s roommate—the brown-haired girl!
The voice that used to make her feel annoyed and disgusted was now as pleasant as an angel to her.
When Lily heard the voice, her body surged with strength again.
She ran forward as if her life depended on it. There were still loud footsteps on the ground.
At this moment, she could not care less!
However, after running for a few meters, Lily did not see her roommate.
‘Perhaps she’s looking for me somewhere else?’ Lily subconsciously thought.
At this moment, her roommate’s voice came from the right again, “Lily, is that you?”
Hearing that, Lily quickly turned her head and raced to her right in ecstasy.
Although her roommate was also a weak woman, her existence at this moment gave Lily great power.
There was a big difference between one person and two people.
Thud, thud, thud.
Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud…
The two kinds of footsteps still echoed in the library.
The difference this time was that Lily was no longer like the headless chicken that was wandering around aimlessly.
This time, Lily was chasing after her roommate’s voice with a purpose.
