1 1 Phone Call (1/1)
Mia is a cartoonist for children's books. She receives a phone call from her dad for the first time in 24 years.
”Hello?” ”Mia.” ”Yes.” ”Come home. I need to talk to you.” Her father ends the call.
She gathers her stuff and puts them inside of her bag. She heads to her car and head home.
As she arrives home, Lily, the head maid, comes and greets her like she usually does. ”Lady Mia.” ”Where's Father?” ”He's inside of his study.” Mia nods.
...
Knock. Knock. ”Come in.” Mia opens the door and enters the room. ”What is it you want to talk about?” Father stands up and sits on the sofa. ”Take a seat.” She did as she's told.
”I want you to do us a favor, Mia.” (This a first time Father asks me something.) ”What is it?”Before he speaks, the door slams. Her mother comes in. ”We want you to pretend to be Maya. ”Josie!”
Josie ignores her husband. ”Maya runaway with a man when she's supposed to get married. We want you to be her as a stand in. Can you do that, Mia?” Mia was shocked.
Mia thinks for a bit and agrees to it. She did it for her parents. She thought that if she did it, they will knowledge her as their own daughter. But she knew that it won't come true.
Next morning, she dressed like Maya and went with her mother to visit them to try on the wedding dress. Mia was being cautious.
...
Mia went to try on the wedding dress. She wears it and sees herself in front of the mirror. (Wow.) She shakes her head. (No. Maya will look beautiful in this.)
Soon she gets out and show herself in the wedding dress. ”Wow. Maya. You look very beautiful.” ”Thank you, Aunt.” Mia looks around but she hasn't seen the man she is supposed to marry on Maya's behalf. ”Ah. He refused to come. That boy.” Mia smiles. ”It's alright, aunt.”
...
After the wedding dress fitting, Mia went ahead of her mother. She went to visit her best friend, Jenny at the coffee shop.
”What?!” ”Jenny, your voice is too loud.” ”Ah. Sorry.” Mia told her best friend about her being Maya's stand in.
”Won't they find out?” ”It will be okay. Maya and I do look alike. Besides there's only certain people can tell us apart.” ”I guess but I don't think this is a good idea.” ”I know. But my parents need me.” Jenny sighs.
”I'll be fine. I'll keep you up to date.” ”You better.” Mia smiles at her best friend. That night Mia heads home. She prepares herself on the wedding day.
