980 Bleeding (1/2)
When Huo Congjun hurried to the hospital from home, the climatic impact from the third wave of ambulances had already died down.
The doctors who were still in the Emergency Department's main hall and not yet dispatched were only two housemen who had seemingly been picked up from somewhere and three or four young resident doctors who had just run over from their departments.
However, Ling Ran was still standing in the reception area and had yet to enter the resuscitation room or operating theater as he usually would in the past.
Looking at Ling Ran's tall and straight body, practically all the medical staff, including Huo Congjun, felt inexplicably relieved.
”How many ambulances came?” Huo Congjun's expression became much more relaxed. The fact that Ling Ran was not on the playing field yet showed that the Emergency Department still possessed its greatest power, and it also showed that Yun Hua's emergency system had not collapsed.
The feeling was similar to when a general's armored division had yet to be dispatched into battle. Huo Congjun could not help but feel relieved that he was not too late in his return.
Just as Ling Ran ended a voice call, he heard the question from Huo Congjun. He turned around, smiled, and said, ”A total of twelve ambulances and twenty-one patients.”
Huo Congjun was about to move forward when his knee went weak. He almost fell and became the twenty-second patient. ”How many batches are they separated into?” he hurriedly asked.
”Three batches,” Ling Ran replied.
Huo Congjun asked, ”So in just a short period, three batches of patients have arrived?”
”Yes.”
”These guys...” Huo Congjun thought of another possibility. He frowned and asked, ”Are there a lot of lightly injured victims? Since we're providing food and drinks for the paramedics—”
”Every ambulance basically has one who's seriously injured,” Ling Ran interrupted Huo Congjun's estimation.
”That's more like it.” Huo Congjun's anger quickly disappeared. For hospitals, the performance appraisal of a lightly injured patient was incomparable to that of a severely injured patient. It was especially so for a patient suffering only from external injuries. Even if he broke an arm, he only needed to get two X-rays, a splint, and a cast.
Seriously wounded patients were a different case, especially those who were so seriously injured that they had to enter the ICU. The number and type of fluid replacements they needed alone could use up the entire stock of a small clinic, forcing them to restock.
As the manager of Yun Hua Emergency Medical Center, Huo Congjun spent all his efforts to get the lounge for paramedics as well as drivers so that they could eat meat and drink tea for free. The idea was to get the paramedics to classify the patients spontaneously before they reached the hospitals. 'You can send lightly wounded patients anywhere, but seriously wounded patients and our hospital's doctor have to be sent here.' These were the words written on the pizza boxes in the lounge for paramedics.
However, Huo Congjun suddenly looked at Ling Ran in doubt. ”A dozen seriously injured people have been sorted out properly?”
”Yes, I've mainly distributed them to various departments. There is one operating theater left. I didn't let anyone use it,” Ling Ran answered quickly.
Huo Congjun nodded slowly. In such an emergency, the Emergency Medical Center can only carry out the initial treatment, stabilize the patient's condition, and refer them to another department. Their tasks would then be completed, nonetheless...
Nonetheless...
Huo Congjun was full of doubts as he looked at Ling Ran. He did not even know how he should start asking questions.
”The departments were particularly cooperative. Doctor Ling's allocation of patients was also reasonable, so the referral went particularly smoothly.” Zuo Cidian slipped out of the corner. He knew about Huo Congjun's doubts too because Huo Congjun was not the only one who had questions. Other people and Zuo Cidian himself had similar questions.
”Even if the departments cooperated...” Huo Congjun frowned. If he had to pinpoint a certain time when other departments did not cooperate during another emergency of that scale… he would be able to. Of course, there would always be a department or a doctor that would not follow the Emergency Department's request for various reasons. However, such a degree of incoordination was not necessarily wrong, and it may not even reduce the treatment quality and efficiency.
At the end of the day, each surgeon's operation method was unique. Even if the hospital's treatment procedures had turned into streamlined procedures and were so detail-oriented that they could tend to different patients, the patients were always different in the end. The hospital may want to standardize things and streamline procedures a little more, but before the human body could be assembled in a streamlined procedure, the hospital could not be so wilful.
When it came to emergency treatments, different departments and doctors had different habits as well as requirements. All this while, the Emergency Department was never able to get what they asked for fully.
Huo Congjun naturally looked to Zuo Cidian.
Zuo Cidian understood Huo Congjun's look, just like a cub who understood a lion's expression. He obediently stretched out his furry paws to let the lion caress it and broke into a cute smile as he said, ”How should I say this? Ling Ran's efficiency in guiding operations is beyond normal levels.”
”Isn't it typical for him to go beyond the normal level?” Huo Congjun said something which was difficult for others to understand, but standard for Yun Hua Hospital's staff.
”You should see how Ling Ran guides surgeries.” The Department of Urology's Associate Chief Physician Guo Liqing walked over slowly.
