780 Gallstone (1/2)
Ling Ran performed the surgery at breakneck speed. A hepatolithiasis and hepatectomy on the right lobe of the liver were completed within two hours.
The reporters knew too little to appreciate such a feat. Since they had taken satisfactory pictures, they left happily.
Huo Congjun encouraged the surgery group again. ”Well done, everyone. Yes. Continue to complete your surgeries with high accuracy and show the capability of the Emergency Medical Center of Yun Hua Hospital. Now, everyone, you still need to keep up the hard work. Okay… Doctor Ling, please go back and rest early. Don't burn yourself out.”
Ling Ran nodded. ”I'm ready to go back.”
”Yes, yes, have a good rest. If you do not wish to come tomorrow, just give me a call or send me a message through WeChat.” Huo Congjun smiled. ”It's a long journey back from Brazil. The journey must be tiring, so don't be in a hurry, okay? Come back again when you have enough rest.”
Everyone's expression in the operating theater remained unchanged.
Huo Congjun nodded in satisfaction and went out.
Lu Wenbin quietly continued working on things like abdominal closures and so on. Ling Ran followed Zuo Cidian out, and found himself surrounded by a group of family members.
Ling Ran hastily mentioned a few words and looked to Zuo Cidian for an explanation.
The patients' family members had too many questions, and to the doctors, most of their questions were boring and were born from ignorance.
The patients' family members were usually like that. A patient might have understanding and knowledgeable family members, but there was always one or more family members who were ignorant. As long as a patient had many family members, they could always ask for the outrageous.
Most doctors could not be bothered to answer such questions. Only doctors like Zuo Cidian who came from town hospitals could bear these stupid questions. Zuo Cidian no longer avoided topics about his history in the town hospital. In truth, it was impossible for him to avoid that. The hospital was a small, closed off, and boring society. The transmission speed of a doctor's qualifications would spread faster than gossip about men and women. After all, the stories about men and women gossip were not suitable for every occasion. However, the gossip related to qualifications could be spoken in lots of occasions.
However, Zuo Cidian could now describe his background at the town hospital as another experience.
He had grown patient with the family members.
Because that was the only capital Zuo Cidian had.
Zuo Cidian used around 15 minutes to calm down the family members. He took the opportunity and said, ”Hurry up and go to the Intensive Care Unit. The patient will be sent there soon, and all of you still need to change to scrubs as well as do other matters.”
The dozen or so patients at the spot instantly became very busy.
Zuo Cidian pulled Ling Ran away and sighed. Then, he looked at Ling Ran again, smiled, and said, ”Doctor Ling, how do you feel? I mean, how do you feel about the family members.”
”It seems the same as the previous ones.” Ling Ran observed the surroundings.
”How different can the hospital environment be? There won't be any changes even if you didn't come back after a year, much less a month. It's the same day after day and year after year…” Zuo Cidian could not help but think about the town hospital he used to work for and said, ”I've worked for almost twenty years, yet the town hospital did not change much as well. It looks exactly the same as the time I joined.”
”It's good if it never changes.” Ling Ran said, judging that statement by his own standards.
Zuo Cidian said, ”No changes means that there will be no updates in terms of devices, equipment, as well as the hospital beds.”
”I see, that's no good.” Ling Ran immediately shook his head, frowned, and thought, ”In this case, the devices and equipment in our department has not been updated for a few months.”
”Yes. But we don't have that money, right?” Zuo Cidian chuckled. The Emergency Medical Center survived through grants. If the patients and prescription costs increased, the allocated grant would increase, and bonuses like cash rewards for doctors and nurses would increase as well. However, that could not be treated solely as profit, so it could not be used whenever they needed.
Ling Ran nodded slowly.
”Where are we going now?” Zuo Cidian saw that Ling Ran did not want to immediately leave.
”A ward round, and I'm off for today.” Ling Ran was ready to check the two patients who just had the surgery. The few hours after surgery were usually the time when complications will be at their most serious. Some hospitals would forcibly increase the frequency of ward rounds. For example, in a weaker hospital, surgeries like hepatectomy would need the chief surgeon to take care of the patients until the patients regained consciousness.
Of course, strong hospitals did not have to operate like this. The chief surgeons from the strong hospitals were more skillful, and they would usually send out doctors who were attending physicians and might even be better than an assistant lecturer from a weak hospital.
Ling Ran had his own surgery tempo and ward round schedule. Due to the fact that he had just returned to the country, Ling Ran wanted to check the patients he operated on today, and he will do so multiple times.
Besides, after coming back to the hospital, he did not visit the ICU at all, and he wanted to make sure their conditions were normal.
Zuo Cidian was stunned and muttered, ”I've almost forgotten your style.”
