When the workday was over, Wang Liwei saw Jian Yi waiting for Song Yu at the entrance of the company. She said with a peculiar tone, “Such an indecent private life.”

When Song Yu saw that the back seats were full of gifts, she asked, “Why did you buy so much stuff? It’s not the first time you’ve been to my place for dinner.”

“They are all inexpensive but practical stuff.” Jian Yi laughed.

“The fact that you bought so much is going to make my mom call me out for being inconsiderate,” Song Yu said after letting out a sigh.

“That’s how I can get auntie to invite me over more frequently!” Jian Yi glanced at her, implying something more with his words.

The car stopped at Song Yu’s house. It was an old residential area. Looking at the crude brown mud wall, Song Yu thought to herself that her parents would have never imagined to be staying in a place like this. The bankruptcy had changed everything.

The two-bedroom house her parents stayed in was not much bigger than her small apartment.

The moment they stepped in, Yu Qianyin welcomed them warmly. “This kid… Why do you always bring so much stuff over? Song Yu, you should’ve stopped him!”

“Don’t blame Song Song. She didn’t know about it.” Jian Yi smiled and sent everything to the kitchen.

“Dinner is almost ready. Go and take a seat. Song Yu’s dad talks about you all the time. You… You wouldn’t even come if it weren’t for my invitation.” Yu Qianyin waved her spatula around as if she was angry.

“I’m just afraid that if I visited too often, you guys wouldn’t appreciate me as much.” Jian Yi walked into the kitchen and continued, “Auntie, your cooking is beyond words. This smells so good.”

“Sweet talk. I would appreciate it more if you visited every day. Regardless of how good my cooking is, it doesn’t motivate you to visit enough.” While it seemed like Yu Qianyin was complaining, she was smiling brightly.

Song Yu could never imagine that Yu Qianyin, who had never cooked before the bankruptcy, would get used to the lifestyle of a typical housewife.
