14 The Body Enhancement Lab (1/2)
The two arrived at the elevator. The Boss pressed the button and again, the robotic voice of the elevator spoke.
”To Where?”
”To the Body Enhancement Lab,” the Boss replied.
”Voice of High Authority recognized. High-Status Location recognized,” the robotic voice said. Then the doors opened. When they stepped in, the door closed and prepared to take them to the location the Boss indicated. However, the elevator didn't go down.
It moved back.
”Uh...Boss? Why did the elevator move back?” Paul asked nervously.
”Don't worry,” the Boss replied. And with that, the elevator moved down. After about 2 or 3 minutes, the elevator stopped. But instead of the front doors opening, the back wall lifted.
”That's a door?” Paul asked.
”A secret one. Reserved only for myself and those I trust without any percent of doubt,” the Boss said.
”Then that means...” Paul said, realizing what that implied.
”Yes. You are someone I trust beyond any doubt,” the Boss assured him.
Paul was beyond happy. The Boss had recognized him to be a worthy subordinate to be the keeper of his secrets.
Behind those words was a smile. A smile that indicates a small but successful step to an end. Needless to say, it was going exactly how the Boss wanted.
They exited the elevator and the door closed and reverted to being a simple wall of an elevator. In front of them lay a large room. It was dimly lit, but the Boss seemed to know where to go. As Paul followed the Boss, he saw an area blocked by a circular bar. The Boss put his hand on the bar and the part where he touched lifted.
The two walked onto the middle of the area. The bar closed and the floor slowly went down. As they went down, they entered an area with a circular reinforced glass wall. Paul could see everything. There were tubes among tubes of strange colored liquid. People in lab coats were working. There were large amounts of data on screens. It seemed just like the lab when Paul entered the door at the bottom of the staircase, but this one had something about it, aside from the secret pathway to get here.
*Wow...* Paul thought. *This must be a really special place...and the Boss is entrusting me with this!*
Two minutes later, the platform stopped. They had arrived in the Body Enhancement Lab.
”Come with me,” the Boss said to Paul. ”If you want power beyond anything you would imagine.”
”Y-Yes!” Paul said, following the Boss, more excited than he was before.
As they walked, the researchers greeted the Boss.
”Hello, Boss!”
”Hello, everyone,” the Boss replied. ”Let me introduce you. This is Paul. He will be with us today.”
”N-Nice to meet everyone here,” Paul said nervously.
”Don't be nervous,” a man said, patting Paul's back. ”If you're recognized by the Boss, then you are one of us.”
”T-Thanks,” Paul said, still nervous. The man that patted him was a chubby man in his late 50s. He had black hair and beard and wore a fancy lab coat and round glasses.

”This is the director of this lab, Dr. Morel,” the Boss said to Paul. Paul and Dr. Morel shook hands. After a short intermission of greetings and introductions, Dr. Morel spoke.
”Well, let's go. You didn't just come here to meet the lab members, right?” Dr. Morel said. ”Follow me.”
The Boss and Paul followed Dr. Morel. They came to a door labeled: Field Experimentation Room. Dr. Morel put his eyes on a scanner that was beside the door. The scanner beeped and turned green, which opened the door.
The room was a lot smaller compared to what Paul saw on the outside, but the atmosphere in the room was much tenser.
