Chapter 267 - The Child (1/2)
”Is it because of what happened between us?” Danson asked secretively as he glanced at the driver to make sure he wasn't listening.
The driver quickly cleared his throat and focused on the road.
”We're both a.d.u.l.ts. Why are you making such a big fuss?” Danson asked in a quiet voice.
Marissa continued to look out the window and laughed at herself in ridicule, ”Yes, we're both a.d.u.l.ts. I guess it was too childish of me to think that there was actually something between us.”
”Something between us? You're the one that's been obsessed with Emerson all these years...”
The car fell silent again. The tension between the two could not be resolved.
Just before the car pulled up at the Qian Family Home, Danson said one last thing, ”Fine, I'll buy the company off you. You can sell the house, I don't want it...Do what you want. I don't care.”
Marissa smiled helplessly as she stepped out of the car. It was clear that this man wanted nothing to do with her. Since he wasn't holding her back, she had no reason to stick around shamelessly.
The best thing for her to do now was to sell everything and start a new life with her son.
So, even though it was already 11pm at night, she packed her things and decided she couldn't live under the same roof as Danson for another night. As she walked out the door, she said, ”My lawyer will contact you tomorrow about the company. As for the house, the auctioneer will come by tomorrow to put a value on the place and arrange an auction date. I will give you one month to move out. Since everything in the house belonged to your father, I won't be taking any of it with me, you can keep it, sell it, throw it out...whatever...”
Danson frowned but he did not say a word. There was no reason to hold onto someone that only brought him endless pain...
...
Everything progressed quickly. The lawyers met with Danson the next day and went over the paperwork for his father's PR company, and within a few days, the company was officially returned into his hands.
At this time, Danson's mother received news of what was happening and began to investigate Marissa. It was suspicious for this woman to sell everything within a week after her ex-husband's will was finalized. And even stranger, she left the country in a hurry.
Of course, she had no idea about Marissa's relationship with Danson so she came to look for her son. ”Why did you buy the company from her. It was originally yours anyway. She never deserved it. She scammed your father,” Marcia Zhe complained.
”Mom, it doesn't matter if she was genuine or not. If you look at the company's growth over the past few years, it's clear that we would have gone bankrupt already without her,” Danson explained. ”Just let her go...”
”But, Danson! She's such a liar!” At that moment, Danson's mother pulled out a folder. ”I hired a private investigator to follow her and look what I discovered.”
As she placed the folder on the desk a photo slipped out.
Danson picked it up and saw a picture of Marissa walking down the street, holding hands with a little boy.
”Marissa's parents migrated to Singapore not long after she got married to your father. At that time, no one thought anything strange about it. But, after my investigation, I realized why they did it: they've been hiding this child,” Marcia frowned as she tapped her finger on the photo.
