Chapter 247 - Everything For Emerson (1/2)

After what felt like forever, Marissa finally moved away from Danson's lips. She didn't know why, but her eyes stung a little and she could feel tears welling up inside. ”Danson, I want to...” she tried to tell Danson that they were breaking up, but he suddenly pressed a finger to her lips and gestured for her to hush.

”Lie down with me. I want to get some rest,” he said gently as he lay back down.

Marissa did not move, but Danson tugged on her shirt and pulled her down to join him.

”I want to...” Marissa tried to say what she was thinking again but paused when the man rolled over and wrapped his arms around her.

”Quiet, I'm trying to sleep,” he said as he closed his eyes.

Marissa looked at the peaceful young man in front of her and sighed. If Emerson didn't exist, she would definitely be in love with him. But, reality did not allow that.

”Danson, I...I  want to break up...” she finally said. ”This was meant to last one week, but it's almost been 2 years. I don't see us continuing like this in the long term. Especially after we grow up and move into the a.d.u.l.t world. After we graduate, you will return to help your father at his company, but I am aiming to go to university. Our lives will be completely different.”

Marissa waited for a response but Danson's eyes remained closed.

Marissa shook the man gently to see if he heard her, but he didn't move. It seemed, he was asleep.

She frowned.

Left with no choice, she climbed out of bed and wrote a little note, ”There is more congee in the kitchen. Eat it all and get better. After you've recovered, come to look for me. I have something to tell you.”

She would have to break up with him another time.

But, after she left the room and closed the door, Danson's eyes gently fluttered open. Did he hear correctly? Was she breaking up with him? He thought things were going fine between them. Why would she suddenly come to this decision?

One week later, on the day of their graduation, Danson finally returned to school. When he saw Marissa, he pretended like he didn't know a thing and jumped straight into preparing for their graduation ceremony. She was his and he wasn't letting her break up with him.

Marissa tried to speak to him, but he continued to avoid her until the ceremony was over.

After the ceremony, everyone went to a nearby bar to celebrate. They were all 18 and had officially finished high school, so they decided to celebrate like a.d.u.l.ts.

As soon as Marissa entered the bar, she immediately went to sit next to Emerson and Danson went to sit next to Marissa. There was nothing suspicious about this since the three of them were good friends and were always seen together, but there was an indescribable awkwardness.

One of their classmates soon carried over a round of drinks to celebrate their graduation and everyone cheered. This was Marissa's first encounter with alcohol so she screwed up her nose when she drank it.

”Are you OK?” Danson asked as he handed her a tissue.

Marissa nodded her head and wiped her mouth. ”Danson, there's something I've been wanting to tell you all day.”

Danson frowned. He knew what she wanted to say but he didn't want to hear it. So, he raised his hand and ordered another drink to distract her, ”Here have another drink with me first.”

Marissa agreed and drank the second drink.

But, just as she was about to speak to Danson again, Emerson suddenly got up to go to the bathroom. Marissa noticed a chance to speak to him on his own, so she put her conversation with Danson aside first and decided to follow Emerson.
