Chapter 229 - The Briefcase (1/2)

Roy had been a lawyer for over a decade, but the longer he was in the industry, the more corrupt he became. After all, he knew how the law worked and he knew how to work his way around it.

He learned bad habits from his seniors in the early years of his career, including tax fraud and evasion. But, it slowly developed into embezzling client funds. At first, he simply overcharged his clients and slipped in a few extra little receipts here and there. However, it wasn't enough for the greedy man. Especially when he began to find wealthier and wealthier clients.

They were millionaires and billionaires, so in Roy's mind, losing 1000 yuan for them was like dropping a 1 yuan note for the average person. Thus, he did not feel guilty stealing from them.

But, 1000 yuan quickly turned into 10,000 yuan; 10,000 yuan quickly turned into 100,000 yuan. Soon, he found himself embezzling millions each year. After all, each time Roy succeeded in tricking his clients, he would up the ante and embezzle more. It was too easy.

Some of his more honest colleagues questioned how he drove around in a Lamborghini and lived in a luxurious villa, but they simply thought he was good at saving. After all, he was single and had no major financial responsibilities. But, in reality, he spent money faster than water from a tap.

His favorite place to spend money on was women. In fact, he indulged in women in an extremely perverted manner; often paying them for threesomes and orgys.

Halia and Sean had certainly made the right choice to enter this mission with a disguise. Otherwise, this man would have eaten Halia alive.

Roy wasn't a very good looking man. If Halia had met him a few years ago, she would have seen a partially balding man with a droopy face, a fat nose and buck teeth. She would have met someone that looked, at least, 10 years older than they really were. But, after some plastic surgery, Roy was now a questionable age. Questionable because he looked so fake that no one knew where to begin guessing. He underwent a few hair transplants that didn't look much better than a wig; he had excessive botox that caused his cheeks to barely move when he talked; he got a new nose that looked out of proportion on his face; only his teeth remained the same.

When compared to Marissa, who already looked very fake, this man was on a whole new level.

But, it didn't matter how he looked. When he waved his money around, women naturally flocked to him like bees to honey and he loved it.

For him, money could really buy happiness.

This time, Marissa's dead husband, Donald Qian, had left Roy with just over 500 million yuan. If he didn't already change the ownership of his PR company to Marissa before he died, Roy would have had even more funds to play with.

”As you can see, there were a lot of expenses after Mr. Donald Qian's death. After I helped him pay off everything, we were left with just over 450 million yuan. Mr. Donald Qian has allocated 50% of his remaining funds to his wife, Marissa Qian; 20% will go to his brother, Douglas Qian; 20% will go to his son, Danson Qian; and 10% will go to his ex-wife, Marcia Zhe,” Roy said as he picked up the will.

Halia listened with surprise. Where did 50 million yuan go? Did the man really have that many expenses?

However, Marissa didn't even budge as she handed the large stack of receipts back to Halia. She had no idea what her husband owed, so she accepted the receipts without questioning it.

Meanwhile, the other people seated around the table had no interest in the receipts either. They just wanted to know why Marissa was allocated a whopping 50%!

”Was Don in his right mind when he signed the will? Why did he leave this gold digger with 50%?” Douglas Qian complained.
