Chapter 207 - A Reporter With A Good Sense (1/2)
Jaclyn stared at all the food in front of her and rubbed her hands in excitement. Even though her cravings were strong and her hands had been untied, she knew the door was firmly locked and she had no way of escape. Plus, after her talk with Mia, she knew she had to stay strong and resist.
Jaclyn had not had much of an appetite all day due to feelings of nausea, but the food in front of her was so good that she suddenly felt her mouth salivate. ”Just eat a little bit of each dish,” John said. ”Your stomach will need some time to adjust to the food so don't push yourself.”
He then placed an empty plate in front of Jaclyn and started cutting a bit of pork knuckle and bratwurst for her. After that, he ripped off a piece of pretzel and placed it on her plate as well. ”Try it,” he smiled.
Jaclyn picked up her fork and gently took a bite of the pork knuckle. The fat and juicy meat melted in her mouth and warmed her stomach. It was like eating a hamburger after a hangover; for some reason, it felt so right. Jaclyn quickly took a bite of the bratwurst as well; she didn't realize how hungry she was. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't eaten much over the past few days.
At that moment, memories of dirty water and stale bread came to her mind. That's right, that was all her kidnappers had been feeding her over the last few days. She had almost forgotten.
Jaclyn paused for a moment. The drugs had kept her in such a euphoric state that the entire experience was a blur, but now that she was off the drugs, memories slowly flooded back. Memories of being thrown into the back of one truck after another, memories of being yelled and spat on, memories of men laughing as she begged for another shot of heroin...memories of other women that she had met along the way.
”Did my brother mention anything about when I'm going in to file a report?” Jaclyn asked.
”I will take you down to the Interpol office tomorrow. Your brother and sister-in-law will meet us there,” Mia replied.
Jaclyn took another bite of the pork knuckle and nodded her head.
At that moment, Mia suddenly leaned over with a napkin and wiped some oil off the corner of Jaclyn's lips. ”They may have some questions for you tomorrow. Some of them may be tough. But, take your time and answer them with everything you know. We will be there to support you,” she said gently.
Jaclyn looked into the woman's dark blue eyes. How could such a kind person still be single?
All of a sudden, Jaclyn remembered that John was interested in Mia. With a cheeky smile, she glanced at the man and gave him a wink. ”Mia, you have something on your mouth too,” she giggled as she gestured for John to wipe it.
But, John stared back at her blankly.
”Where?” Mia asked as she picked up a clean napkin and started dabbing around randomly.
Jaclyn looked at John with frustration. Didn't he learn anything from her? How was he supposed to win her heart when he was so clueless?
”John, help her,” Jaclyn said straightforwardly as she stared at the man.
John had a piece of pork knuckle in his hand at that moment and was shoving it into his mouth. He couldn't help Mia in that state. If anything, he would only make her dirtier.
In the end, Jaclyn sighed and leaned over towards Mia. She then grabbed the napkin out of her hand and gently wiped the corner of her lips for her. ”You always care about other people. It's time you find someone to take care of you in return,” Jaclyn whispered as she took another quick glance at John.
Mia looked at Jaclyn and smiled. ”Don't worry, I'm sure the right person will come at the right time,” she said.
Jaclyn nodded her head, ”Who knows, perhaps the right person is already beside you but you haven't noticed.”
...
Back at the beer hall, Trisha was splashing some water on her face inside the bathroom.
”Control yourself, Trish,” she whispered as she looked at her own reflection. If she didn't keep herself composed, Oliver was going to find out that she liked him and it would ruin their friendship.
