Chapter 157 - We Have To Kill You (1/2)
While the five waited for the corrupt officer to arrive, they continued questioning the kidnappers to get as much information out of them as possible.
”Do you know who ordered the kill?”
”What exactly were you asked to do?”
”Was this the first time you worked with this man?”
Halia asked one question after another as she removed the bullet from the injured kidnapper's foot and began to stitch him up.
”Ahhh! Can't you be more gentle?” the man cried in pain. His lips were pale and his voice was weak from the wound he received.
”I'll be gentle if you answer me properly,” Halia replied.
The man sighed and finally surrendered; he could no longer endure the pain. ”I don't know who ordered the kill, but I do know that they wanted to avoid suspicion by making your death appear like an accident. We were asked to call your father and kill you 'accidentally' through a fake struggle.”
Halia shivered at the thought. How would her father have felt if he heard her die on the phone? How could someone do something so cruel?
”This was our first time working with this man. Someone recommended us to him and we were more than happy to take the job since he had a good reputation for paying well and on time. Plus, he is in the police force, so he is known for covering the tracks of his contractors well,” the man explained.
”Have you ever met him in person?” Halia asked as she threaded the needle through the man's skin.
The man gave a gentle hiss, but the pain was definitely a lot more bearable.
”No, I don't think any of his contractors have ever met him in person. But, I believe his clients would know who he is,” the man replied cooperatively.
Halia quickly finished stitching up the man and packed everything away while Sean and Jackson carried the two unconscious men into the bathroom and locked them inside. Meanwhile, Alexander and Amelie quickly fetched the two men that were guarding outside and threw them into the bathroom as well. Since the corrupt officer never met his contractors, Sean, Jackson, Amelie, and Alexander decided to pretend that they were the kidnappers. All they had to do was put on the kidnappers' ski masks and there was no reason why the corrupt officer wouldn't believe them.
Just before the corrupt officer arrived, Sean knocked the injured man unconscious and threw him in with his accomplices. Now, it was time for them to put on their show and catch the corrupt officer.
But, to their surprise, when a car finally pulled up outside and the driver's door opened, they were met with a familiar face - and this familiar face was no police officer.
”I was asked to deliver some cash here,” the man said.
Jackson stared at the familiar chubby man and tried to avoid eye contact. It was Emerson's uncle, Everett Pang. What was he doing here?
Of course, the corrupt officer didn't have 10 million just lying around. So when he was asked to bring the amount in cash, there was only one person he could call for help: Mother Wu.
”The kidnappers want more money,” he revealed honestly. ”I promised them 10 million, but they want it in cash right now and I don't have that amount in my hands.”
”As long as they guarantee to kill her, I am happy to deliver them another 10,” Mother Wu said as she hid in the hospital bathroom to take the call.
”Yes, I guarantee it will happen this time. If not, I will go kill her myself,” the man replied.
Mother Wu sighed.
After she hung up, she immediately called her brother and instructed him to take 10 million to the abandoned house. When Everett Pang received his sister's phone call, he agreed without asking any questions.
That was how Everett Pang ended up at the little abandoned house with 10 briefcases filled with money in the boot of his car.
