Chapter 148 - Are You Leaving Already? (1/2)
Jackson and Amelie remained in their hotel room the entire day, reading through the files that Trisha had brought them. The files were highly confidential and they couldn't leave them unattended in the room in case someone saw them, so they had to read through everything as soon as possible and return the files to the Interpol office.
The only time either of them left the room was when Amelie popped out to buy lunch and dinner. Sure, room service would have been easier, but with the files scattered all over the room, even opening the door for too long put them at risk of being discovered.
For dinner, Amelie decided to visit the French restaurant that was inside the casino complex. She was expecting a guest later that night and she assumed he would feel more comfortable if he was to be greeted with some familiar food.
Yes, Alexander Dupont was on a flight bound for Macau and he was landing in the city around midnight that very night.
People often said that 'distance makes the heart grow fonder'. In Amelie's case, that was certainly true. She never knew how much Alexander meant to her until she was separated from him and, at that very moment, she couldn't wait to see him again. In fact, she missed him more than she missed Jackson during the year that they were apart.
The chef inside the French restaurant was excited to hear that a French customer was ordering from his restaurant, so he specifically prepared a special dessert as a treat. It had been a long time since he spoke to someone in his mother tongue and he was excited to hear the familiar language. Amelie didn't realize it at first, but she too missed speaking French. Even though Jackson could speak the language, no one else understood, so he often chose to speak English when they were around other people, just to be inclusive. They only ever spoke French when it was just the two of them, but when it was just the two of them, it was always serious business. Thus, a proper conversation was hard to come by.
Back in the house in France, her and Alexander were also on serious business, but they always found the chance to chat; whether it was about life or their past. She realized, at that moment, that she had taken those conversations for granted.
Hence, she found herself chatting to the chef for a little longer than expected.
While Amelie was gone, Jackson continued to read through the files in front of him. There were certainly a lot of questions surrounding his mother's death and it seemed to be entangled in a huge web of conspiracy.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the hotel room door. Jackson lifted his head in curiosity. He didn't call for room service and Amelie had the keys. Who would be knocking on his door at this time of night?
Jackson carefully stood up, approached the big wooden door and leaned forward to peek through the peephole.
Standing on the other side of the door was a familiar-looking figure with long black hair, sunglasses, a surgical mask, and a baseball cap. This person was trying to conceal their identity, but Jackson immediately recognized who it was.
With one swift move, he opened the door and pulled the woman inside.
