Chapter 142 - A Beautiful Family (1/2)

”Here, this is a ring I've been saving for my future daughter-in-law. Since everyone is here son, why don't you grant me my wish before I die?” the old man said as he shoved the ring into his son's hands. ”It would make me so happy.”

Emerson looked at the ring in surprise. Even if he and Halia had really started dating since last month, marriage was much too soon.

”Dad, this is too sudden,” he said.

”Don't you like Halia?” his father asked.

Emerson glanced at Halia and nodded his head. He couldn't deny that he did like her. He had liked her since they were kids.

”Then, you better make her your wife before someone else does,” the old man said.

Emerson held onto the ring and suddenly felt that his father was right. Perhaps, he had been too patient and careful. Maybe, it was time to be brave and direct.

He glanced at Halia again and Halia looked at him with confusion. What was he thinking? Why wasn't he rejecting his father's request?

Then, suddenly, Emerson got down on one knee and raised the ring towards Halia, ”Halia, I know we haven't had much time to get to know each other, but I've never felt this way about another woman...This may seem too sudden for you, but for me, this is something I've dreamed about for the last 12 years and I think my father's right. If I don't do this now, someone else might take you away from me and I don't want that to happen.”

”Halia, you were my first love and I would like to make you the last. Could you do me the honor and...”

At that moment, a familiar voice cut in, ”How could you skip the queue and get married before your older brother does?”

Halia's eyes lit up as she quickly turned towards the charming voice. Even though his voice was cold, it somehow melted her heart.

Father Wu glared at his older son as he approached. Why was his timing so bad?

”What are you doing here?” the old man asked.

”Having dinner, of course,” Jackson replied.

He then glanced at Halia's father and stuck out his hand. ”You must be Halia's father. I am Jackson, Emerson's older brother,” he smiled.

Father Feng looked at the smiling young man with curiosity. It had been over a decade since he last saw Jackson.

He had certainly grown up to be quite a handsome man. Was this really the 'rascal' son that associated with gangsters?

Father Feng shook Jackson's hand and glanced at Father Wu as his faced burned red. What an awkward situation.
