Chapter 67 - The Best Distraction (1/2)
Max sat inside Cleo's home, holding onto a cup of tea nervously as Maximus lay nearby in his dog bed. Perhaps, the dog realized by now that this human was afraid of him, so he just ignored him and had a nap instead.
While Cleo got changed in her room, Max glanced around the little apartment. Just like Halia's apartment, it only had one bedroom, but it was more than enough space for one person.
In the living room was a bookshelf filled with textbooks about food, as well as healthy recipe books. It seemed, Cleo really loved what she did.
Roughly 10 minutes later, Cleo emerged from her bedroom wearing a buttoned shirt and black business pants; she took her job seriously.
This was the first time Max had seen her in her business attire and it made her seem like a smart and professional young woman. It attracted him, but it made him even more self conscious. He only finished senior high school and never went to university. Worst of all, he was even kicked out of culinary school.
Cleo noticed the man was in a daze, so she gently clicked her fingers and asked, ”Are you ready to go?”
Max quickly stood up and nodded his head. ”My car's downstairs, I'll drive,” he offered.
...
At this time, over at the lab, Halia and Jackson were taking turns getting changed in the bedroom. Halia was inside, while Jackson waited patiently outside. A moment ago, he had almost lost control when he saw Halia wearing nothing but a towel, but luckily he had more self control than that.
Just as everything seemed to be under control, however, a loud bang suddenly echoed from the bedroom. Jackson quickly knocked on the door, ”Are you OK?” he asked.
”I think I sprained my ankle,” Halia called from inside. ”Can you come help me?”
Jackson quickly went to open the door.
