Chapter 246 - Rough Day, Rough Night (1/2)

”How are you feeling?” Song Jia asked as she placed a bunch of flowers that she had brought for her father, in a vase on his headstand and taking a seat next to him.

”Much better. They take good care of me and moreover I can slack off here all day long without worrying about any work.” Song Chen joked and it made her laugh softly. ”How is the work going though?”

Song Jia's mouth twitched and with an eyebrow raised she said, ”I thought you weren't worrying about the work.”

Song Chen chuckled before responding. ”I can't help it. I am just too used to working all day.”

Song Jia nodded her head and then the conversation trailed off. Neither of them had anything else to say and they just smiled awkwardly.

Even though they tried to make small conversations every time they met, the air of awkwardness had not lifted off between them entirely. There would often be uneasy silences between them and it was hard for both to try to behave as if everything was normal.

Finally, after a few more minutes, Song Jia's phone rang sparing them both from this awkward situation. She pulled it out from her bag and saw that it was Wu Zhang. ”I will be back.”

Song Chen had seen the name flashing on the screen from the corner of his eyes and therefore he just nodded his head, while Song Jia stepped out of the room.

”Where are you?” Came the smooth voice of Wu Zhang from the other end.

”I came to the hospital, will be leaving in a few minutes. Where are you?”

”I have just left and you don't leave on your own. The hospital is on my way home, I will pick you up.”

Her brows furrowed hearing his words. This hospital was on a completely different route than the one that led to the Wu Mansion from the headquarters. ”When did you change the location of the Wu Headquarters?”

”Not the headquarters love, I have changed my route. I will be there in half an hour.” His words brought a smile on her face and they hung up after exchanging goodbyes.

Song Jia called Wei Xin who had driven her here. ”Wei Xin, you can leave, take the car home.”

”And what about you?” Wei Xin who was sitting in the cafeteria asked, taking a sip of her tea.

”I will go back with Wu Zhang.” With that, the two hung up and Song Jia went back inside. Song Chen had fallen asleep due to the heavy dosage of medicines. Song Jia very quietly padded her way to sit at the couch placed at the other end of the room and pulled out a file from her bag to go through it.

After some time, her phone rang again and it startled both Song Jia, and the sleeping Song Chen. She immediately fumbled with the keys and turned the ringer off. ”Dad, go back to sleep. I will be leaving now. And please take care of yourself.”

”Good night.” Song Chen said in a hoarse voice.

”Good night, dad.”

A shiny black Bentley was parked outside the hospital exit and Wu Zhang stood against it waiting for Song Jia. When she approached him, he pulled her in his arms and gently pecked her lips, giving her butterflies in her stomach.

As they drove off, Wu Zhang noticed that she was constantly pressing the back of her neck. ”Is anything wrong?”
