Chapter 307 - Getting Used To Life In Ingrid (1/2)
Mercury and Party chatted for a bit until Party asked
[So, what is it you want to know?~]
”Well first off… What is this temple for?”
[The temple is mostly used by mortals to level up their skills~ They get a feeling once they have acquired or leveled up a skill and then use the crystal ball to level their skills up~ In rare cases, one of us 33 will descend and grant them skills using this avatar~]
”I see… Then can anyone acquire any skill?”
[Yes with enough training~ except for the skills we grant, the so-called bestowed skills~]
Mercury digested the information for a bit before he asked
”Then when mortals use the crystal ball can they see their status as I can when I use status?”
[Hmm~ Why are you so interested in mortals all of a sudden?~]
”Well… Because two of my women are mortals?”
Party looked right at him before she began to giggle a bit, then she suddenly stopped as a brief sadness flashed through her eyes and she began speaking
[Congratulations~ Though it would do you good to remember that they are mortals and you are a living god~]
Mercury tilted his head to the side as he spoke
”I already know that though?”
Party let out a sigh before she explained his earlier question
[Mortals don't have the 6 status values as you do~ They see their name, age, race, active, and finally passive skills~]
”I see…”
Mercury tried to imagine what Marie's status would look like for a moment before he shook his head, after all, it seemed rude to try and imagine something so private, he got the feeling that it was worse trying to imagine what a person looked like nude
[Is there anything else?~]
”Hmm… not really, say hi to Light for me”
[Will do~]
Mercury stood up from the chair again, as he did it disappeared along with the other chair and the table, then the avatar floated over and laid down on the altar and closed its eyes, then a robotic voice once again sounded out inside the room
[DESCEND ENDED, LIFTING ISOLATION BARRIER…]
Mercury felt the room being reconnected with the sounding space and sighed before he walked back out of the room and found Evelin waiting for him outside the door, she smiled under her veil and asked
”How was it?”
”It was good, I kind of missed Party…”
Evelin closed her eyes and nodded before she spoke matter-of-factly
”One will always miss their parents”
Mercury nodded, he angered with what statement fully so he casually asked
”Do you also miss your parents sometimes?”
”Me? I grew up in an orphanage, but I sometimes miss the people that worked there”
”Oh… I see”
”Don't be like that, it wasn't like I suffered or anything, besides Marie's father's workshop was nearby so we played all the time”
”I see”
”Well then, let's go to the castle”
”Right, can't delay any more than this”
Once they arrived at the castle Evelin led Mercury into one of the inner courtyards where the castle guard was busy training, however, once Evelin arrived they all stopped like clockwork, turned to her, and bowed, Evelin, waved her hand signaling them to continue, the two of them spent a little time watching the people train before the guard captain signaled for them to stop and walked over to Evelin and Mercury
”Lady Evelin”
”Hey Casper, I bright the person I was talking about, this is Mercury”
The elf named Casper was rugged looking with grey hair and green eyes, his skin was covered in old scars, though Mercury didn't spot any newer ones
'That's probably because no one can touch him anymore…'
Even though Mercury wasn't a swordsman he could feel it, this man was a sword, his aura was that of a sword on the verge of being drawn, in other words, he excluded an overwhelming presence, Casper's eyes turned to Mercury and looked him over, his eyes stopped at his cane before they moved onto his right leg and he asked
”What happened to your leg kid?”
Mercury showed a smile
”Molten rock”
”So is it crippled?”
”No, though most of the Gastrocnemius muscle is gone on the outer side and the Soleus muscle is degraded severely… It is slowly recovering”
Casper nodded before he asked
”Then how do you plan to keep up with the training?”
”By doing this…”
Mercury let go of his cane before it morphed into a cast that warped itself around his injured leg, then he shifted his weight over to his right leg and stood on it equally distributing his weight, Casper watched him for a few moments before he nodded
”Alright, if you have the resolution to learn the sword then I'll teach you”
