”Well then... Now it really is time”
Mars walked out of the bedroom and headed towards his office while greeting the servants he passed by name along the way, the people that had their doubt about Mars and his ability to rule Ular had long since been shut up by the efforts he had put into the city, not only had he built the Jane walls in less than 3 years but he had also opened public hospitals and clinics and established a firefighting force, he had also made a functioning drainage system for the entire city and currently mana powered water towers stood up all over the city giving the citizens clean water with the turn of a handle... Soon Mars arrived at his office and sat down in his chair and started his work
A couple hours after he started his work a knock was heard on the door, Mars looked up and called out
”Come in”
The door was soon opened and a small figure walked in, she had red hair like her mother Varvei and carried not a spear like her mother but a painting which she walked over and showed to Mars, Mars inspected the painting with great interest, this was not the first time he was suddenly called upon to randomly inspect a work of (child) art
”Hmm...”
Mars gave a nod before he spoke
”A dragon, nice work Chyn”
Chyn gave a shy smile and spoke in a quiet voice while her red scaly tail swayed from side to side
”Thanks dad...”
Mars gave a smile and ruffled Chyn's hair which made her blush slightly before she asked in a quiet voice
”Are you... Busy dad?”
”Hmm... No, there's nothing on my table that can't wait a few days”
”Then... Can we fly later?”
”Sure, let's fly around the whole city”
”Umm!”
Then Chyn turned and ran out of the door again, Mars gave a sigh she really was nothing like her fierce mother, he had once seen a butterfly landing on her nose when she was a baby after which she sat ever so still and stared at set butterfly for almost 10 minutes, she was no doubt the most quiet of his children
”Well then, back to work...”
Mars went back to work with renewed energy as he glanced at the painting of a red dragon Chyn had left on his table... After working for a few hours Jane knocked on the door and walked in before she read her daily report, Mars followed along and gave his solutions to the problems that had come up before Jane eventually excused herself, then Mars leaned back in his chair and looked into the ceiling before his stomach rumbled
”Well then let's get some food...”
Mars walked out of the office to find some late breakfast, he soon arrived in the dining hall and lined up to get some food, chatting with the guards as he waited on his turn to be served some food, as he waited he felt a family presence and gave a smile, when it was his turn he asked for some extra meat and found himself a place to sit down before he called out
”Victoria”
From a nearby shadow emerged a black and red-orange striped panther, her horns lit up as she walked over and jumped up on the bench and laid down in Mars' lap
”Mars... I am... Hungry”
”Yeah don't worry I got your part right here”
Mars fed Victoria, she had not changed much in the past 5 years, soon a set of light footsteps ran over before a voice called out from behind Mars
”Dad!”
Mars looked back and saw Mary along with their child Kent, he had blonde hair and dull red eyes, but despite his slightly dull eyes he was a bright child that loved to play around with his half-siblings
”Hey there champ, what have you learned today?”
Kent sat down next to Mars as Victoria made himself scarce, ever since Alen had tried to ride her she was preferring to watch over Mars' offspring from the shadows, at rare time she could be seen sitting and looking at them from around corners but she never let them come near
”Well today I learned math, I'm not that good at math but---”
Kent talked and talked, when he was not eating or breathing he was talking telling his dad all about what he had learned or what the others had been doing, Mars seared a look with Mary before both of them smile at each other ;
”Dad, are you listening!?”
”Yeah I am”
”Okay, then Elen took a piece of paper and---”
Soon Mars was done eating and so was Kent and Mary, Mars gave Kent a kiss on the forehead which he got an 'ew dad' back before Kent ran along with Mary following after him
”Well then... Back to work I guess”
Mars walked back towards his office but on the way there he was intercepted by two flying meteors that crashed into him from behind
””Dad!””
”Woah there...”
Mars cushioned the impact of the two little meteors that had just flown into him, Mars looked at his two daughters, Helena and Malena. Helena looked just like her mother with blonde hair and blue eyes with white wings on her hip, she was however a mischievous child, Malena however had inherited all of Mars' dragon blood and had vermilion vertical split pupils and bright red hair, her wings were covered by red scales which also spread to most of her lower body including her upper legs, Mars put on a slightly stern face and asked them
”What have I told you guys about flying at full speed inside the manor?”
””Sorry dad””
”Very good... Now what are you doing?”
”Mom wanted us to---”
”---Come get you”
Mars gave a smile and patted them both on the head ruffling their hair before he spoke
”Well then let's go find her, is she training the new guards?”
””Yeah””
”Okay then, let's take a shortcut”
Mars walked up to and opened a window before he flew out followed by his twin daughters, soon they arrived at the training field where Yel was drilling the new guards, Mars landed silently behind her and hugged her from behind, the new guards gasped as they imagined what their demon instructor would do to this rash young man, but opposite to their expectations Yel just seemed to melt into Mars' embrace with a happy smile on her face, Mars glanced at the guards before he gave her a quick kiss and spoke
”You wanted me and here I am”
Yel showed a sweet smile before Mars let go of her, then her face turned back into the stern demon instructor the new guards knew so well before she spoke to them
”Listen up, this is governor Mars, he is the one you will serve from now on!”
The guard trainees looked at Mars as their faces welled up with respect, it was due to Mars that the city of Ular was currently undergoing it's biggest period of growth and prosperity, soon they lined up and saluted Mars, Mars gave a nod and picked up Helena and Malena on his arms before he floated up into the air and addressed the new guards
”I expect you to do your utmost in your new role as guardsmen of Ular! Your job will be to protect the city from threats foreign and domestic!”
”””””””Yes lord Mars!”””””””
”Very good...”
Mars gave a nod and floated down again as his expression turned from dominating governor to doting father in mere moments as he talked with Helena and Malena for a bit before he flew back to work, just as he sat down in the chair once more a knock was heard from the door, Mars gave a wry smile
”Come in”
The door opened and a small figure trotted into the room, she seemed to have just woken up from her nap and wiped her eyes as she asked
”Dad, where's mom?”
Mars stood up and walked over and picked his and 78's daughter up before he gave her a kiss on her forehead before he spoke
”Why don't we go find her Kana?”
”Okay”
Kana was unlike his other children and mostly human, Mars could feel some dormant dragon blood in her veins but he didn't feel the need to awaken it, Kana had short blue hair like her mother had before she went into the tank, besides that she had sky blue eyes like some of her other siblings and Mars had, Mars spread out his perception and easily found 78 but then he asked Kana
”Where should we go Kana?”
”Hmm... Mom said she would be cleaning the east wing today, so let's go there first dad”
”Sure”
Mars walked while he carried Kana which told him what she had spent the day doing while he nodded along as he listened, soon they arrived in the east wing and after asking a few working maids where they could find the head maid they soon found 78, she was cleaning a window while humming a song, Mars sat Kana down who then ran over while calling out to her
”Mom!”
Kana ran over and was picked up by 78 that gave her a kiss on the cheek before she also noticed Mars and gave a sweet smile, Mars talked with 78 and Kana for a bit before he went back to his office, or at least he tried to on the way there he was intercepted by Elen
”There you are dad! You promised we could play later so let's play now!”
Mars paused as his thought of getting any more work done left his mind completely
”Sure, then what do you want to play?”
”Let's play house!”
Mars gave an internal sigh before he followed Elen and played with her for some time until Chyn showed up and gave a look at Elen before she asked him
”Dad... Can we fly now?”
”Do you mind if we bring Elen along?”
”No”
”Yay! I love flying!”
Mars then picked up his two daughters, one on each arm before he floated off and flew around the city a few times before they were satisfied, then he trained Alen in swordsmanship and played hide and seek with the two twins Helena and Malena before it was time to put the young ones to sleep, Mars read a story for each one of them before he also stretched and returned to his bedroom and laid down on his bed after wearing his pajamas and looked into the ceiling for a bit before he stretched his arm out and grasped the empty air with a smile on his face before he closed his eyes and thought
'I didn't know it was possible to be this happy...'
With that thought, Mars drifted off to sleep
