C3240 night attack on Montmartre (1/2)
On March 18, 1871, the sky was overcast. Late at night, the temperature began to drop.
The entire Montmartre plateau had fallen into a deep slumber. The day's protests had exhausted too many people's energy, and this time, there were even some incidents where they attacked the French military camps.
Both sides restrained themselves and did not open fire. The French soldiers who were hiding in the military camps near the Bourbon's palace, looked at the people outside fearfully through the fences and walls, listening to the fervent sounds of protest outside.
Stone pieces rained down on the soldiers, and they could only look for a place to hide. There were even laughable soldiers who knocked the pot of boiled potatoes on their heads, causing the stones to hit noisily with tinkling sounds.
Fortunately, the soldiers who stayed with the German to watch the order in Paris were all native Parisians. Their accents were the same, and they were all familiar with each other, so these demonstrators wouldn't make things too difficult for them.
The violent protest was just a shower of stones. There was even someone who warned the soldiers to avoid it before they hit the rocks.
The conflict within the city could still be controlled, but the closer they got to the walls, the more intense the situation became in the southern part of the city. During the morning parade, some inconspicuous youngsters would even throw rocks at the German military camp.
As it happened, the stone had smashed through the head of a German veteran, and an angry sergeant in the army had ordered the firing and eviction of the soldiers, who fled in fright after a volley of gunfire.
However, the stray bullets had also injured two protester s, one had a bruise on his arm and the other had been shot in the ass!
This was the most dangerous conflict they had today. Fortunately, both sides had restrained themselves from causing a more serious conflict!
Humans were a habitual species. No matter if the environment was good or bad, they could easily adapt to it. In the 21st century, someone had once experimented with it and said that it wouldn't take too much time for humans to develop a certain habit. 21 days was more than enough.
It had been almost a year since Paris fell into a state of chaotic war, and the citizens here had adapted to the dire and dangerous environment. They would fight during the day and sleep at night.
The citizens of Commune member and Paris, who had been tired for the entire day, started snoring loudly. After 12 o'clock, the whole of Paris sank into complete darkness.
The municipal work had long since stopped, the municipal government could not work at all, the once bright gas lamps had run out of fuel and many had been destroyed.
The homes of the residents were also dark. Who had the money to buy candles and kerosene to light them up during the war?
The famous Nightless City of the 19th century, the bustling Paris, it would still be brightly lit even after midnight in peacetime. Opera houses, bars, high-end hotels, restaurants until 2 or 3 in the morning … Luminous, intoxicated, the bustling Nightless City!
Everything had been destroyed by the war, and the only things left in Paris now were broken walls and broken walls and poor people who could not escape.
When the bell was about to point at one in the morning, near the Red Castle Inn, a bright eyes suddenly appeared behind the body of the Napoleon Emperor who had his head chopped off, followed by a bayonet that reflected the weak starlight.
One, two, dozens... A new French army wearing red pants and blue coats suddenly appeared at the outskirts of Montmartre plateau.
These were all carefully selected from the Paris garrison, soldiers who were familiar with every inch of the Paris terrain. They were the vanguard, and behind them were countless new army of the Republic, lurking in the darkness.
The soldiers probed as they moved forward. The moment they saw the National Guard patrolling late at night, they would immediately hide in the darkness.
