C1908 Depth of civilization (1/2)
Civilization is absolutely different from civilization. Depth, breadth, thickness... Acceptance, innovation, survivability, various indicators are not the same, then the fate of civilization in the river of history is also naturally very different.
Although all human beings were equal under the heavens, it couldn't be denied that some civilizations' ability to survive was very low. In the race between the strong and the weak, some civilizations were destined to perish while others were destined to become vassals of other high level civilizations.
European civilization originated in Greece, flourished in Rome, fused in the Middle Ages, was stronger than the Renaissance. It was a civilization that mankind recognized from the beginning to the end.
As for the Chinese civilization, they originated from two rivers and gradually expanded. While absorbing the surrounding foreign cultures, they could also assimilate them, thus forming another unending civilization system.
and the rest of the ancient Indian civilization, the two rivers civilization, the ancient Egyptian civilization... There were also the Southern North America Continent and the civilized nations of Africa. They had all died due to various reasons, some of them directly perished, while some of them were forced to mutate under the suppression of powerful civilizations.
The Middle East was not the most miserable region in the world at the time, the King Yi's intelligence network had once sent a message to Xiao Letian, saying that there was currently a popular human race exhibition in Europe. This exhibition captured a group of aboriginals from the Southern North America Continent, Africa, and even the tropical island of the Pacific, and then gathered them in a zoo for the Europeans to enjoy.
None of the Europeans regarded the natives as human beings; they simply looked at them like animals in a zoo.
The natives eat, sleep, bathe, mate in the fence... Everything was copied in the original native way, and as they watched the naked black women roam the fences, the scorn of the kings of high civilization excited them yet again, when the so-called European happiness was more in contrast to those inferior peoples.
So the question is, don't lower civilizations have the will to resist? Of course not, even people with human nature would want revenge if they were bullied. However, revenge was something that relied on one's strength. When the difference in skill was too great, revenge would become a joke.
The scene of how a long spear with a great blade fought against a Gun's cannon had happened more than once in the history of the human race.
Some people would say, ”Ten years is not too late for a gentleman to take revenge.” I can't beat you in my entire life, but I'll do my best to build up my strength, to make my son's generation stronger, to make my grandson's generation stronger, to make three generations of power twisted into a single string, I don't believe that I can't beat you to death.
Very good, these words were very spirited, making people feel unyielding when they heard it!
However, we must remember more clearly that those who can say the words ”ten years is not too late, but they are not afraid”, those who can understand this principle, have a very high level of civilization.
Basically, only Chinese civilization who was on par with Europe, a nation that had thousands of years of history, could consider a larger national strategy of exchanging time for space and trying their best to accumulate strength.
And for those countries with low levels of civilization, they don't even have basic clans, and their grandchildren don't even know their grandpa's name, nor do they know what the grudges of the previous generation are. To put it bluntly, a civilization like this had too shallow of a root, and was completely unable to resist the infiltration of a powerful civilization. Their fate was to perish and assimilate.
Is that hard to understand? Maybe it was difficult for people to think about it this far in the 19th century, but in the 21st century that Xiao Letian lived in, this kind of ”amnesia” that originated from low level civilizations always existed.
For example, during the Second World War, Japan invaded Asian countries to carry out brutal colonial rule. There were countless massacres in Asian countries, but how many people could really hold a grudge against Japan?
The war had already passed for more than half a century. The Chinese and the people of the Korean peninsula still would not forgive the sins of the Japanese. No one would forget those blood debts, because forgetting history was tantamount to betraying.
But at the same time, under the same sky in Asia, the countries of Southeast Asia that were deeply injured by the Japanese invasion were completely different from Chinese civilization.
After only a few decades of war, the citizens of those countries had long forgotten about the blood debt that Japan had created, and even those born after the war could not understand the use of that hatred. They would even retort, ”What does it have to do with me to kill my grandfather's generation?”
