Chapter 638 Clam God (2/2)
The Windstorm Water Magic Spider used its claws to fiddle around in the void before it disappeared into its net. This caused Fatty Big Sea, who had initially wanted to rekindle their relationship as father and daughter, to be met with a closed door.
In the Sky World, the Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha had only recovered some semblance of security after it returned to the world it belonged to. It looked around its surroundings to confirm that it hadn't been followed before the monster trainer and familiar broke apart from their shared body.
There were still beads of perspiration on You Huangming's face. He wiped away those that had formed on his forehead and took a deep breath. Then he thought about the lofty and pompous speech he had given before he departed and how much he had bragged then. Now, he was thoroughly embarrassed.
You Huangming didn't dare to return to the council of elders, for he didn't know if they would mock him. After some contemplation, You Huangming decided to let the Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha escort him back to the Xuanhu Tribe.
”Eh, why is Huangming back?” Some sharp monster trainers from the Xuanhu Tribe had picked up on the Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha's breathing.
The Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha landed in a small valley in the tribe. This valley was surrounded by mountains, and the mountain peaks acted as a barrier of sorts to keep the Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha completely hidden from view.
A hurricane hovered and whistled in the valley, refusing to leave.
The thousand hands that belonged to the Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha became one again as it lowered its head to recuperate. The wind from the hurricane struck its body, allowing the golden shade to become even more dazzling.
You Huangming arrived at a cave inside the valley. By the door was a twenty-foot-long Flowering Wind Tree that blocked the wind from the hurricane. Inside, the cave was very spacious. You Huangming poured himself a glass of cool water and took two sips aggressively before he slammed the glass on the table.
The sound of his breathing was extra heavy; You Huangming didn't wish to relive the memories of that day's battle. It wasn't that he had never lost before or that he could not accept defeat—You Huangming just felt uncomfortable.
Footsteps could be heard from outside the stone cave. Shortly after, a man who looked very similar to You Huangming, save for the graying hair on his temples and sharp eagle eyes, took long strides in. ”Huangming, what's wrong? I heard that you came back, but you didn't pay me a visit and instead chose to hide in the valley. You're treating your uncle like an outsider.”
”Uncle.” You Huangming exhaled and rose to greet his elder. ”It's nothing much. I just got bored of staying outside and felt like coming back.” You Huangming shook his head and refused to say anything further.
”I understand your personality all too well. Tell me, did you lose when you tried to challenge somebody…? You've always been so temperamental since you were young, and you've remained the same even after becoming a Quasi God.”
The only person who could say something like that about You Huangming was the man in front of him. You Huangming laughed bitterly and said, ”Uncle…”
At last, You Huangming confided in his uncle about everything that had taken place over the past few days. ”So that's what happened… Victories and defeats are inevitable when you try to learn from challenging other people,” said You Gulan with a smile. ”You can beat others, but you won't allow them to be victorious?”
”No… It's just that I was defeated right after I said that my Thousand-Handed Faceless Buddha would never lose.” You Huangming was melancholic.
”You—” You Gulan shook his head. His nephew cared too much about his successes and failures. ”Perhaps the other party has long forgotten what you care so much about,” said You Gulan calmly. ”Since you're back, try the bacon your uncle made. Rest at home for two days before going back there.”
...
Days went by and the stars shifted. It was now nighttime. There was a vast sky full of bright stars above Earth Star, much like a starry river that was hanging upside down.
A crack appeared in the corner of the sky. The Milky Way came gushing down like a waterfall, filling the entire sky as a tremendous volume of power flowed in.
The plants on Earth Star grew maniacally. The entangled plants in the ruins of the city grew to their hearts' content, their appearances changing every minute. The vast cosmos outside Earth Star suddenly shifted as if the corner of a hidden box was being opened.
”Such monumental changes within the blink of an eye... Is this the work of a god…?” At the summit of Kunlun Mountain, the chief of the White Dragon tribe lifted his head and gazed at the river of stars. Many familiars stood behind him. They were terrified as they watched the dramatic changes take place in the sky.
”Long, long ago, the Clam God evolved into stars and kept a corner of Earth Star concealed as part of a 20,000 year-long agreement. The Clam God sunk into a deep sleep for just as long… Now that the time is up, the Clam God has finally awakened.”
