Chapter 205 Kill You While You’re Sick (2/2)
The stone stairs leading to the First Building was no longer clean and tidy, overgrown with weeds and littered with toilet paper, plastic snack bags, and other trash. The place seemed to have gone through decades overnight. The building collapsed, leaving nothing but ruins.
“How… how is this possible?” cried Ning Tao in surprise. “Miss Bai, you should know best about this place. What’s going on?”
Bai Jing gave a wry smile and said, “I don’t know. Ostensibly I am Bai Sheng’s adopted daughter, but to him, I am just a pawn. It’s perfectly normal for him to keep something a secret from me.”
“I guess that’s how it should be,” Yin Molan uttered quietly. “Buddy, Bai Sheng probably has a magic tool that could fool eyes, or he’s already able to cast the magic art to fool eyes. Last time you were here, what you saw was an illusion.”
Ning Tao thought of the big house he saw at the foot of broken Great Wall when he first went to see Qing Zhui, which was actually the illusion created by several white lanterns. But the vision was low-grade, and he saw through it at first glance. The last time he came to the First Building of the Yinyue Mountain, he did not find any flaw here!
“Brother Ning, let’s go up and have a look,” Qing Zhui suggested. “Maybe this is an illusion.”
“All right, let’s go up and have a look.” Ning Tao couldn’t reconcile himself to not getting an answer.
The stone steps ended in the First Building.
The last time Ning Tao was here, what he saw was an old, antique building made of pure wood, looking rather grand. At the moment, however, he saw the ruins of the walls, the antique wooden building nowhere to be found.
Last time he had seen the Silvermoon Cherry, but this time the tree was gone. The original location of the cherry tree was a large pit. And it didn’t look like it had been dug recently, because it was full of weeds and rotting leaves and animal remains.
Was the scene before him or the one he had seen last time created by the magic art which could fool people’s eyes?
Ning Tao suddenly remembered the stone towers he had seen last time. He felt skeptical, wondering, “Is it because of the stone towers? If so, the stone towers are much more advanced than the white lanterns Bai Jing used.”
“Damn! I never thought that guy could play such a trick!” Qing Zhui snapped.
Ning Tao was getting less and less confident that Bai Sheng would die. “It looks like Bai Sheng has made some progress along the way of taking advantage of money to cultivate. I have come across a magic tool with electronic components from the west that can drive people crazy and out of control. My friend Lin Qinghua left me a message. He said the world was about to change and a new era was coming. I never take it seriously, but now I believe what he said.”
Where was Lin Qinghua now? Was he still alive?
No one knew.
Qing Zhui, Bai Jing, and Yin Molan all looked grave. They were clearly not ready for the new era to come.
After stepping through the ruins of the First Building, Ning Tao came to the place where he had a meal with Bai Sheng last time. It had been a pavilion, but what he saw was a wasteland.
“Miss Bai,” said Ning Tao, “does Bai Sheng have any other locations?”
Bai Jing shook her head. “I only know about this one, but it looks like he’s been lying to me.”
Ning Tao thought for a moment, then woke up the smelling and looking states of the eyes and nose, and detected the surrounding environment. There was no demon aura or spiritual energy, not even the scent of Bai Sheng and the two cultivating youth Wu Xiaolin and Liu Xian’er.
“Well, let’s go back and think of another way.” Ning Tao gave up.
They turned and descended the mountain. As soon as Ning Tao, Yin Molan, Qing Zhui and Bai Jing left, a small snake emerged from a hole in a tree, holding its triangular head high and watching the direction the four were leaving…
Back at the foot of the cliff where the blood lock was, Qing Zhui opened her arms before Ning Tao opened the blood lock. She didn’t say anything, but it was clearly an attempt to get Ning Tao to take her in his arms.
Yin Molan stared at Ning Tao.
Bai Jing’s mouth curved into a half-smile.
Ning Tao gave a wry smile and reached out to pick up Qing Zhui. Then he unlocked the blood lock and rushed in…
In Ning Tao’s rented house, Zhao Wushuang slowly opened her eyes. After a brief acclimation to the light, she rolled up from the couch, her eyes scanning the surroundings quickly. She remembered this place. This was the house that Ning Tao and Qing Zhui rented.
“Brother Ning?” Zhao Wushuang called out.
The door behind her suddenly opened and Ning Tao walked in with a smile on his face. “You’re awake?”
“Why am I in your house?” Zhao Wushuang asked about her confusion.
Ning Tao replied, “Have you forgotten what happened in the early hours of this morning? Li Xiaofeng drugged your box lunch. You didn’t listen to me, and insisted on having it. As a result, you passed out. I did not trust to leave you there, so I brought you back.”
Zhao Wushuang said angrily, “How dare that bastard put drugs in my box lunch! I’ll call the police!”
“It’s no use. The guy is bound to find a bunch of witnesses to prove he’s innocent. Don’t trouble yourself. I’ll give him a piece of my mind to avenge you,” said Ning Tao. He had actually taught Li Xiaofeng a lesson in a way that would have prevented him from committing similar crimes against others, but he couldn’t tell Zhao Wushuang about it now.
“Thanks to you, or that bastard would have…” Zhao Wushuang was so moved that she could no longer control her emotions. She suddenly opened her arms and jumped into Ning Tao’s arms.
At that moment, a woman suddenly entered the room.
“Hey? Did you have breakfast?” Bai Jing asked.
Zhao Wushuang froze, maintaining an awkward position.
