4 Episode 4- The Sacrifice (1/2)
”John...John are you waking up?” Carrie asked as she was watching her uncle start to move.
John opened his eyes. He got up slowly. He began to speak. ”What...what happened?” he looked around confused.
”Well I could ask the same thing. But for me all that happened was that I found you and Mike knocked out...” Carrie had a worried face.
John looked around more and noticed he was laying on a bed. ”Carrie where are we?”
”Well, when I found you both I freaked but that's when Joe came and helped me out.” She stood.
”Oh...Wait! Whose Joe?” He looked at Carried concerned.
”Oh sorry forgot. He owns this house.” She smiled.
”Oh well where is Mike?”John asked getting up.
”John be careful. You lost a lot of blood. And Mike is okay. The people here are actually nice.” She said helping him up.
”That's good.” He said trying not to hurt himself.
”What did I tell you Carrie?”
Carrie turned to see Joe's wife standing in the doorway. ”Sorry Eva. But he did wake up this time”
”Carrie I know but he needed rest” she says looking at Johns shoulder.
He moved away from her. He didn't want her to touch him.
”Shes not going to bite. She is a nurse” Carrie said crossing her arms. She knew her uncle was stubborn.
Eva laugh a little. ”I promise I wont hurt you” she smiled big.
John sighed. He moved back so she could look at his shoulder.
Eva started to remove the bandage from his shoulder. She cleaned out his wound.
John flinched.
Eva laughed. ”So you can handle being in the army but not some little pinch?”
”Its..its not that. It just reminds me of all the pain I seen in the battle field. Also how did you-”
”Your name tags” she pointed to them around his neck. ”I recognize them because my father also served in the army.” she started to put ointment on his shoulder. ”Also Carrie can you go get some bandages for your uncle?”
Carrie nodded and went to get them.
”So I can see you know a lot about nursing. Did you actually become on or...” John looked at her wondering.
”Before I got pregnant with my first daughter Ella I want to be one. I studied hard. I knew everything about nursing. But everything changed when I had her. All I wanted to do was be there for her every day.” she said putting pressure on his shoulder.
Carrie walked in with the bandages. ”Here you go” she handed them to Eva.
”Thank you” Eva smiled and started to put bandages around Johns shoulders.
”Hey Eva dinner is done-Oh cool you're up!”Joe said walking in.
”Thank you sweety” she stood and kissed Joe.
”Oh John this is Joe” Carrie smiled.
”Hello there!” Joe said shaking Johns hand.
”Hi” John said raising a brow. ”Also if you two don't mind I would like to talk to Carrie alone. Please”
Both Joe and Eva nodded and walked out the door.
John gets up and goes to lock the door.
”John what are you doing?” Carrie asks confused.
”Look I do not trust them” He said going to a window and looking out.
”Their good people. They wouldn't hurt a fly.” She said crossing her arms.
”I don't care. I want to be careful” He said sitting on the bed putting his shoes on.
She rolled her eyes. When she did there was a voice at the door.
”Hey its me Mike. Can I come in?”
”Let him in” John said looking out the window again.
She went to open the door. Mike walked in.
”Man its cool in here. Out there its hot” Mike said sighing.
”Hey Mike. Do you think Joe and Eva are bad people?” Carrie asked wanting to make sure they were on the same page.
”Of course not! Those people have big hearts. I've never met someone like them” He said sitting on the ground.
”Carrie asked because I don't think so. And I don't care who you ask. I will not change my mind” John said opening the window. ”Damn too high.” He closes it.
”Oh okay. Also dinner is done if no one told you.” Mike said excited.
John started for the door when Carrie asked..
”Where you going?”
”To eat?” He looked at her confused.
”Oh so they can be bad people but you'll still eat their food. Okay” she started for door but stopped. ”Hope they don't poison it” she laughed as she walked out of the room. Mike followed.
John rolled his eyes. He walked after her and entered the kitchen. It was small but nice. It was old timely.He sat next to Carrie.
”So John, what do you do for a living?” Joe said as he grabbed a biscuit.
”Well I use to be in the army before Carrie was born. But you probably already know that because Carrie talks to much.” John looks at her. ”But now I just stay at home and sell furniture” He was a little upset Joe wanted to know about him. He didn't care for these people and he sure didn't want them to know anything about him.
”John you don't have to be rude” Carrie said embarrassed by her uncle. 'Why did he have to be so mean to people' She thought as she stared at her plate.
”No no.” Joe shook his head. ”I understand. He just wants to be careful. That's all.” He smiled.
”See Carrie” John turns to her. ”Its fine” he looked at her angrily.
She rolled her eyes. He was being childish so there was no point for her to say anything else.
Suddenly Eva and two girls appeared. The tall one looked 16 while the other looked like maybe 12 or 13.
”Say hello” Eva whispered to the girls.
Both girls turned to look at everyone and smiled. ”Hello!”
”Names Ella” she smiled big.
”Bailey!” the other girl said as she also smiled.
Both girls and Eva joined the others at the table.
Carrie smiled as she watched both girls act nervous. She remembered when she too was young and didn't like new people...
Flashback~
Little Carrie hid behind a short man.
The man turns to Carrie. ”Hey don't be shy. Shawn doesn't bite” A young John says as he pushes her forward.
Carrie looked up at the tall man. ”Hi....” she quickly looked away.
Shawn laughed. ”Its okay little one. Don't be scared”
”I'm not scared!” she protested.
Both men laughed.
”Okay little one. I want you to meet my son Ellis.” He moves out of the way and a somewhat tall boy walks up to Carrie.
”Hello...” he looked away blushing.
”Hi..” she stared at him.
He smiled big. ”You will be my new best friend!” He hugged her tightly.
Carrie hugged back to be nice but she didn't know this kid.
He noticed. ”How about just friends right now. Huh?” he smiled big.
She smiled back. Maybe he wasn't bad at all.
End Of Flashback~
Remembering that she turned to John. ”Hey John?” He looked at her. ”Do you think Shawn and his family will be alright?”
”I think Shawn so. Shawn's a big fella. He can handle himself. Even more when it comes to his family” John said while nodding his head.
”Well...” she looked at her plate. ”Maybe we could go see the town again and see if anyone survived.”
”That sounds like a plan” He agreed but only to get out of this place.
”Hey John.” Joe said putting his plate up. ”Do you want to come with me and go into town to find your friends? I don't mind”
John was going to say no but he knew that he needed to get out and this was the only way. ”Yeah sure” he nodded.
”And while you boys are out us girls can talk about girl things” Eva laughed at the thought of it.
Carrie started to choke on her food. ”Um wait. I think Ill go with them” she swallowed her food and put her plate up.
After dinner Joe, John and Carrie went outside to get ready to go into the town.
”I want to go...” Mike pleaded.
”No Mike. You stay here. Just to make sure nothing bad happens.” John said getting the truck.
Mike sighed. ”Whatever” he went back inside.
Eva kissed Joe's cheek and they were off to the town. Or so they thought. When Joe put the keys in the key hole the truck didn't turn on.
”That's strange..” Joe said getting out of the truck and popping the hood. Everything was normal. ”Hmm” he stared at his engine.
”Whats going on?” John said as he examined the engine as well.
”I don't know. The damn stopped working.” he shut the hood. ”Guess we taking the old car.” he went to the barn. ”In here” he waved for Carrie and John to follow.
When Mike entered the house Eva, who was doing dishes smiled big. ”You stayed!” she smiled big.
”Yeah...” Mike sighed.
”Great! Now what do you want to talk about? Boys? Cars? Video games?” She was naming off things but Mike wasn't listening. He stared outside.
Suddenly a loud noise was heard from outside. Both Eva and Mike look at each other. They than run outside to see what had happen. But when they do they see Carrie running out of the barn. When she approached them Mike looked at her worried.
”What happened?”
