26 Chapter 26: Intelligence (1/2)

The Holy Land Inserted 26070K 2022-07-21

A massive amount of blood and innards was strewed across the ground, resulting in quite the atrocious smell. Wilhelm was unable to even handle the odor and used his right hand to cover his nose. The left side of his body was still full of blisters, and his left arm was dislocated, hanging to the side.

The other creatures which were still stuck in their cocoons couldn't help but stare at Wilhelm incredulously. Their intelligence was bafflingly low, but they were still impressed by the feats of strength shown to them. A creature much smaller than them, Wilhelm, was capable of defeating the gigantic spider.

Naturally, it was not an easily won battle. In fact, if Wilhelm moved one second slower, the chances of him dying were rather high. Furthermore, with the exhaustion received from the intense fight, and the multitude of injuries acquired, he was in no position to move further down the grotto.

His bodies natural regeneration capabilities were inhumane, yet he would still have to wait a few days until he could revert back into his prime. Nonetheless, the only reason he could even persist through the pain was due to the massive adrenaline rush, which was quickly fading. The pain was becoming more and more accentuated by the acid, slowly burning his skin.

He exhaled a sigh of exasperation whilst standing up from the ground, dusting off his legs and buttocks. A glimmer of determination shone in his eyes as he rested his right hand on his dislocated shoulder. He stood there with a stoic expression, lodging his shoulder back into place after a few moments of hesitation.

A gnarly cracking sound echoed out, and a small grunt escaped from Wilhelm's thin lips. He grit his teeth and temporarily dealt with the pain as he searched for his rusted dagger amongst the bloody mess. The surroundings were relatively quiet as he searched under the globs of innards, body parts, and even webs.

He ignored the creatures struggling in the webs—soon locating his rusted dagger, still embedded into a part of the spiders' carcass. He trodded toward the dirk and pulled it out with a little bit of effort, causing some blood to spurt out in the process. Green droplets sprayed onto the right side of his face, but his expression remained placid.

He had just acquired a title for killing the spider and leveled up, thankfully. Though, the effort expended was much more then what he was rewarded with. His status was stronger than ever before, but it still wasn't enough to make it out of the dungeon. He figured the spider was some kind of low-level mini-boss, not at all powerful enough to be considered a threat to the creatures on the top floors.

With that in mind, the battle made Wilhelm realize that he was living far too luxurious as of late; if he didn't start to level up more religiously, death would be inevitable. Thinking to here, he stretched his limbs and sauntered toward the webbed beasts, his eye faintly glimmering within the darkness.

With his new addition to the status, the ants wiggled fearfully as he approached, yet they were unable to do anything in retaliation. They could only look on in horror as Wilhelm thrust his blade into their skulls, ending their miserable lives.

He repeated this action a few times, killing the dozen or so creatures that were trapped. Not including the spiders' experience, he gained a good amount from murdering its food. He was already around a fourth of the way through to the next level, indicating that he got around 2000 experience from the other creatures.

After killing them, he heaved another deep sigh and scanned the room, surveying the surroundings with lackluster eyes. The carcasses laid scattered on the ground, and not a single area wasn't covered in blood. The gigantic spider was more than enough work for a few men to bury; he wasn't too thrilled about such a development.

He begrudgingly sat his daggers down on the ground and stretched his back, the life in his eyes gradually fading. It was time to stop resting and start working. He was a little excited about how much experience he would gain for burying the spider, and how many points it would give him.

Like this, he decided to check his status before digging, so that he could at least gain some piece of mind.
