38 The Palace of the Southern Peaks (1/2)

After a few days of traveling, they arrived in Clover's town, the first town he had been to after protecting Clover's hometown. The two elemental beasts trod heavily on the stone pavements of the streets of the town, the people all turned their head when they noticed them and the two massive beasts. Clover was busy talking with a merchant before she noticed Gold and Bella and skipped over to the side of the carriage. Gold smiled as he noticed her.

”Hello Sir Gold.”

”Hello Clover, please, call me Overlord, that is my real name.”

”What?! Wait, slow down, what do you mean?”

”I am Overlord, protector of Goldema, I am moving to my new home in the southern peaks,” Gold explained as the elementals stopped, then he hopped down and walked around and helped Bella down, ”How have you been? How is Lady Liz?”

”I am fine, she has been doing fine, the shop is doing fine and it is a lot easier to go and collect things in the westwards forest without the guardian attacking, well, Miia,” She noticed Bella, ”Wait, isn't that the princess who took care of you?”

”Yep, she and I are married now, even if I am a demigod, I still have human feelings,” Bella hugged his arm and glared at the much smaller Clover. The people crowded around them, realizing that he was the man who had saved them from the Legion of Solar and it's oppression. The man who owned the inn walked up to him and kneeled in front of Gold.

”Sir Gold, I wanted to thank you again for what you did for our town.”

”Against the Legion of Solar? No problem, well, I did end that organization entirely, they are no more, I killed their leaders, now you may live in complete peace.”

”Thank you, Sir Gold.”

”Please call me Overlord, my real name.”

”Over-, Overlord?!” The man lifted his head and looked up at Gold's face, ”You were Overlord the whole time? Is that why you wore that mask?”

”I see you put the pieces of the puzzle together.”

”Is that why you helped our town?”

”No, but maybe it was part of it.”

”And who is this young lady next to you, Overlord?” The man said as he got up, ”I don't think the legends talked about a mono-eye as one of your servants.”

”Please, be a little kind, this is my wife, Bella,” Bella smirked and glared at the man, ”I am moving to our new home, in the southern peaks.”

”Excuse me, Lady Bella.”

”I don't mind,” She forced herself to sound calm, ”I can see why you made that judgement, don't worry.”

”Do you want a room for the night?” The man offered, ”I can set up a room for you two, if you would like of course.”

”That would be nice, I'll pay you in the morning before we leave.”

”Of course, anytime you want to pay,” He said as he left them. Gold and Bella walked around the market to restock on food for the last part of the trip. Clover and Lady Liz walked up to them.

”Hello, Sir Gold.”

”Liz, it's Overlord.”

”Wait, he is Overlord, is that why the guardian submitted to him?”

”Liz, it took you that long?” Clover shook her head, ”I literally just told you that.”

”Is that why you went to get him?”

”Wow, you are slower than I thought,” She said suggesting a second sense to her comment. Lady Liz looked offended and Bella tried to hold herself from laughing but failed making Lady Liz blush.

”Enough talking about your personal life,” Gold made Liz blush even more, ”Is there anything here that you like particularly?”

”What do mean?”

”Like food, Bella and I are going to leave tomorrow morning for the southern peaks, so we need so prepare a little food for the end of our trip.”

”Oh, okay then, um, what could you bring during your travels?”

”Do you like sweet or salty?”

”A little of both would be fine.”

The elemental creatures stopped in front of the massive palace that overlooked all of the southern peaks. Bella's jaw dropped in awe as she looked up at the palace that towered over them. Gold climbed down from the carriage and helped Bella down, she was still speechless as they walked to the gate.

”Ah, Overlord, Nikholas told me of your arrival.”

”Gatekeeper, open the gates.”

”He told me I had to open them once you answered a few riddles, how does that sound?” Gold sighed, ”He said they should be simple enough for you, Overlord.”

”Go ahead then, let's get this over with.”

”Very well, first riddle, who am I? I see everything in reverse, I need something to help me see in the right way, but I am essential for most living creatures, who am I?”

”Eyes.”
