A few moments ago on the pier.

The ship was drifting away from them but the guards were still watching, just in case Dongmei would fall into the water and they had to pull her out. They were not only mad at themselves for letting Dongmei escape but also scared of what will happen if Guan Dong learns about it.

They watched as the lawyer that was representing Wuxing caught her when she was almost falling which made them sigh in relief. It was always best if Dongmei was safe while running away from them. If she got hurt in the process, their heads would definitely roll on the ground.

With each swing of Dongmei's body, the guard's hearts were tightening, scared the lawyer would suddenly release her and throw their miss into the water. When he suddenly let go of one of her hands, their hearts stopped functioning but then Dongmei caught the railing and landed safely on the deck.

”Oof…” Both of them released the air they gathered in their lungs in one big sigh of relief. As long as Dongmei was safe, they could still survive through this predicament. The ship was already far away from the bay and it shifted a bit, making it impossible to see their miss anymore.

”How do we inform the boss that we lost her? He will definitely get pissed…” One of the guards asked confused about what to do. They were just the guards so even if they rush to the Chief Warden, he wouldn't lend them any prison boats.

His partner first pulled out the phone as he decided quickly, ”Let's first inform Shadow. We don't know why she ran away. Wuxing should still be in the apartment, there is no reason she would run, unless…” As he started theorizing, he suddenly stopped, looking at his buddy before glancing at the ship, having a certain idea forming in his mind.

It looked like they both figured it out at the same time as they said, ”Unless… Wuxing sneaked out and is hiding in the ship!” When this idea got into them, they realised how real this could be. There was no other reason why Dongmei could do it.

”Fuck!” The guard with the phone quickly cursed, calling Shadow to somehow confirm their crazy idea.

If Wuxing was still in the apartment, the situation could be somehow resolved as Dongmei had the GPS chip installed in her hand but if Wuxing was also gone, then the situation would be totally different. It meant that all this while, they were just pretending and acting, trying to run away together from the start.

Bang!

Just as the call connected, they heard a weak but clear sound of a gunshot coming from the ship which scared the shit out of them both. Their only thoughts filling their minds at that time were, 'Someone was shooting on the ship! Miss was in danger!'

At the same time, Shadow was laying on the roof in his comfy beach chair he stole from the warehouse. The weather was too hot for him to stay in his black outfit the whole time so he changed to white, his sleeves rolled up on both legs and arms.

Bzzz. Bzzz.

Hearing his phone vibrating on the floor, Shadow raised his towel he put on the face and cursed not expecting anyone to bother him, ”Fuck, who is calling right now. The situation should be settled for now…” He was working this whole time without breaks so he deserved some time to relax a bit.

Seeing it was one of the Dongmei guards calling him, Shadow suppressed his original unwillingness as it could be something important regarding their miss so he picked up, saying coldly, ”What's up?”

Just as he expected it was something important, but he didn't expect it was this shocking, his first sentence being, ”Miss ran away! We need backup! There was a gunshot as well!” Shadow couldn't exactly hear the sounds so far but just talking about it gave him a scare.

Shadow quickly stood up, knocking the chair back as he bellowed to the phone, ”What?! How could she run away?! Are you two idiots?! Where is she?! What gunshot?!” The information came so quickly that he couldn't quite grasp what was going on or how one girl could run away from two strong dudes.

Hearing the mad Shadow, the guard wiped away the sweat from his forehead and quickly explained, avoiding unnecessary details, ”Miss ran towards the docks before jumping from the pier at the departing ship in the last second. She was safe in the ship but we just heard a gunshot coming from the ship. It's too far for us to see what is going on… Miss might be in danger...”

When the guard finished, Shadow was already pale. Even if it was the guard's fault for letting her escape, not his own, if anything happens to Dongmei, his head would also roll. Guan Dong would use every means possible to find them and make their lives miserable.

The problem they were now facing was Dongmei's reason for running away. Even if she wanted to board the ship on her own, they couldn't force her to stay else she would just kill them. They couldn't do anything to her but she would be unpunished no matter what she did. The only thing they could do it stopping her from doing something dangerous else they wouldn't be protected even by Guan Dong.

Thinking of what to do now, Shadow cursed under his breath and said, ”Fuck... Why would she even do that? We need to get on the ship no matter what and make sure she is safe else we are done for.”

”The only reason she would run is… Wait…” Just as he started figuring out what could happen, the answer quickly appeared in his mind, featuring the face of a certain man who lived just beneath his feet.

Both the guard and he cried out at the same time, ”It's Wuxing!” Shadow's gaze landed on the balcony that was just a few meters away from him when the guard added, ”The only reason for Miss to run away is Wuxing. If she wanted to leave, there was no point in running. Check if he is still in the apartment.”
