57 The Hunt of the Dryad (2/2)

I watched as her body began to morph with the forest behind us, her green emerald eyes stood out as the rest of her slowly sunk into a tree.

”In a couple of minutes, you'll be transported to random parts of the forest after this. Also, try your best to obtain everything... without dying,” her voice completely faded and her green eyes vanished into the tree.

A loud discussion broke out among the crowd, the two sisters also started to talk. Inclining my head I began to look around, searching for the man that looked like he was carved from stone. My eyes found him quickly as he was with the other nine that were in sterling and glittering armor.

I would have to be wary of him, there was something about him that made my skin crawl. He was beautiful but something about that beauty made me feel like it was hiding something cruel. All of the sudden he turned his head and we locked eyes, I turned away and quickly tried to play it off like I didn't know what was happening.

Taking a couple deep breaths, I try to calm the raging bundle of nerves that I felt in the pit of my stomach. His eyes had been cruel as if he wanted to consume me after having tortured me. It was like a shot of fire had run up my spine.

Looking around I search around to see who else is in the crowd of people, licking my lip I find another familiar face in the sea of people. It was the man that hadn't talked when I'd run into Brute one and Brute two.

His face was indifferent as it had been the first time I had seen him. A couple of other people surrounded him, they didn't really stand out, they looked more like props in a movie. We didn't make eye contact, but I noted that he was in the group of people.

Continuing on I look around some more, I see another odd set of people that draw my attention. It was a man and a woman, the man had to be at least seven foot, while the woman was a bit shorter. Her hair was so long that it dragged on the ground, the man was so round he jiggled every time he breathed, his face was that of a baby.

Something about these two gave me a chilling sense of dread and fear, the same as when I'd looked at the man from the Knight of the Goddess. Quickly, I turned away and looked at the two twins.

”There is a total of seven things that are on the list, and it looks like they're all equally spread apart, except for the one where the dryad's nemesis is located,” one of the twins says, I couldn't tell which was which.

”Then what's the best course of action?” The other twins ask.

”We wouldn't know the best course of action until after we've been scattered across this huge forest,” I throw in as I tighten my grip on Wit's hand.

”That's true, then we wouldn't know till we arrived at our starting point,” they both say at the same time as they cock their heads to look at me.

At the same time, a scream broke out among the crowd, turning my head I see a man with hair red as fire and another man with a missing arm fighting. Soon the man without the arm slices through the man with red hair.

Falling to the ground the man with red hair is dead, this was the first time that I had seen another person die in my time in this game. I'd always been killing a monster or being attacked by a monster, never by another Player.

A throbbing sensation starts in my head as I look at the blood seeping out from the dead man on the ground, the other man flicks the blood from the sword that he'd used to cut the other man down.

At the sight of blood my head starts to thump, even more, I felt like my mind was being torn apart from the inside out. Raising my free hand I press it against my face, my whole body was starting to ache.

Panting, I felt the world sway. My body felt like it was being split apart, soon my legs gave out from underneath of me. My whole world began to shift as I fall forward toward the ground.

”Rain!” I heard one of the twins yells, but my brain felt like it was on fire. Soon the forest and throng of people vanished and I was somewhere else completely.
