A FAREWELL

My fairest child, I have no song to give you; No lark could pipe to skies so dull and gray; Yet, ere we part, one lesson I can leave you For every day

I'll tell you how to sing a clearer carol Than lark who hails the dawn or breezy down, To earn yourself a purer poet's laurel Than Shakespeare's crown

Be good, sweet s, not drea: And so

AN APPLE ORCHARD IN THE SPRING

Have you seen an apple orchard in the spring?

In the spring?

An English apple orchard in the spring?

When the spreading trees are hoary With their wealth of pro

Have you plucked the apple blossoht their subtle odours in the spring?

Pink buds pouting at the light, Cruht-- In the spring

Have you walked beneath the blosso?

Beneath the apple blosso, And the silver brooklets brawling, And the cuckoo bird soft calling, In the spring

If you have not, then you know not, in the spring, In the spring, Half the colour, beauty, wonder of the spring, No sweet sight can I remember Half so precious, half so tender, As the apple blosso
