209 A Family Who Loved Her (1/2)

When Lin Mingyue opened her eyes, she realized that the scenery around her has changed. She realized that she was no longer in the hospital. It was nighttime, and the view before her reminded her of those costume dramas that her mother loved to watch.

She looked around and realized that she was in a busy street. People walked around back and forth, and the stall owner and peddlers shouted as they tried to sell their goods.

Mingyue's gaze fell on a girl who stood across the street. The little girl dressed in pink. Her hair tied into two small buns and adorned with tiny flowers. Her cheek reddened as the cold wind blew over. The girl's eyes turned red as she looked around as if looking for someone.

From her expression, Mingyue could guess that the girl tried so hard to hold her tears from falling.

Instinctively, Mingyue headed towards the girl. Once she reached the girl, Mingyue realized that she could not touch the girl or everything before her.

”This… am I dreaming?” Mingyue muttered to herself.

She seemed to remember the stabbing pain in her chest before everything around her went black.

Before Mingyue could figure out what was happening, someone called out her name. Swiftly, Mingyue turned around and saw a teenage boy ran towards her. His face clouded with worry.

”Second Brother!” The little girl ran forward with her arms wide open.

The teenage boy crouched down and pulled the little girl into his arm. ”Mingyue! I've found you!” He pulled away to inspect the little girl. ”Are you hurt? Are you alright?”

Mingyue turned to look at the little Mingyue.

The little girl looked like she was about to cry in any second. ”Second Brother, I'm alright,” she said with a sniff. ”I did not cry.”

Second Brother heaved with relief once he was sure that his sister was alright. ”I'm sorry. We promised that we would look after you. But we got separated from you. It was our fault.”

”It was not your fault,” the little girl said. ”There are too many people in the street.”

The boy's expression softened as he listened to the girl's words. ”Come on. We should go and find Elder Brother and Third Brother.”

Little Mingyue nodded, and while holding hands, the two siblings walked away. Subconsciously, Lin Mingyue trailed after the two siblings. They stopped as they reached under a plum blossom tree.

”Mingyue!” Two boys ran towards them anxiously. The two began to circle the little girl to check for any injuries.

”Elder Brother, Third Brother, I'm alright. I'm sorry I made everyone worry.”

The three brothers looked at each other and smiled at the little girl.

”It's alright. It's good as long as you're safe,” the elder brother patted the little girl on her head.

”Elder Brother is right,” the Third Brother said. ”Come on. Let's get back home. Mother and father will be waiting for us.”
