The door was closed. Yanqi knocked for a while before a woman impatiently opened the door and asked, ”What is it?”
Yanqi hurriedly smiled. ”Sorry for disturbing you. There's a person here whose brain is not clear enough to wander the streets. Can you guys see if you can take him in?”
The woman sized up the man behind Yanqi and asked curiously, ”You're talking about him? It doesn't look like it! ”
”It is indeed him. I saw someone bullying him so I brought him to my house and bought him some clothes to change his clothes!” Yanqi explained.
The woman said unwillingly, ”Then why don't you just let him stay in your house!”
Yanqi controlled her temper and continued to smile. ”I'm the only one at home. It's not convenient to leave strangers at home. Please let me know!”
The woman then yawned and opened the door. ”Come in!”
Yanqi quickly brought the man in and followed the woman. They stopped at the end of the corridor and opened the door. There were four beds inside that looked very simple and crude. There were already two people inside who were still sleeping.
The woman pointed to the empty bed on the left side of the door and said, ”Let's sleep here. I'll go get a blanket for you later!”
The man took a step behind Yanqi, his head lowered as he refused to go inside.
Yanqi brought him in and said with a gentle smile, ”You can stay here for now. I'll come and see you when I'm free!”
The man pursed his lips and said nothing. He looked reluctant, but he didn't move either.
When Yanqi came out of the shelter, it was already close to dawn. The streets were still brightly lit and there was no taxi. She walked back alone.
When he got home, he took a shower. Lying on the bed, his stomach suddenly began to ache. He tossed and turned until 2 in the morning before he fell asleep.
The next day, Su Yanqi woke up at seven, washed her face, changed her clothes, put on some light makeup, and left the house on time at eight.
He opened the door and went out. Just as he was about to close the door, he was surprised. He saw the man that she brought to the shelter was sitting outside her door. He looked at her timidly and quickly lowered his head.
Yanqi asked, ”Why are you here?”
The man remained silent. His half-lidded black eyes looked somewhat stubborn.
Yanqi had no choice but to call the magazine and request a two-hour leave of absence. She first took the man downstairs to eat breakfast, then escorted him back to the placement center.
The people at the placement center didn't know that the man had already run away. They were very surprised to see Yanqi bring him back.
When she left, Yanqi turned around to see the man looking at her. His pair of phoenix eyes were dark and clear, filled with pleading and attachment.
Yanqi bit her lower lip and left with a ruthless heart.
