Inside Fortune Orphanage, Long Meisuo looked at the cute children around him. His heart was actually more tranquil than it had ever been before.
There was a very large wutong tree in the middle of the courtyard. It seemed to be over a hundred years old. She remembered that she used to like playing hide and seek under this tree.
The dean nodded and looked at the wutong tree in front of him. There was a hint of sadness in his eyes, making it difficult to see what was hidden within.
The two of them sat on a bench in the courtyard and looked at the old photos inside. They looked at the black-and-white photos and the color ones.
”These are the pictures taken since the construction of the orphanage. Every child has them. As long as they have lived here, they have them.”
Looking at these children of the past, the dean had a faint smile on his face, somewhat blissful.
When she flipped to a picture, the dean stopped. Her slightly shriveled hands were trembling as she touched the picture of a little girl on top of it. Her lips were trembling.
Long Meisuo's hand was frozen in midair as well.
This girl...
This was clearly her, 5 years old. On her round apple-like face was a pair of black crystal-like eyes, two shallow dimples hung on her face, and she was wearing a pink dress with a bow tied to her head. After seeing this picture, a few fragments appeared in her mind.
”Ying Er...” The dean's lips murmured softly, his eyes moist. Tears welled up in his eyes, teetering within.
Long Meisuo looked at the Principal in front of her, her expression complex. Did she still remember him? It's been so many years, and you're still thinking about me? But why had he abandoned her in the first place?
”Who is she?” Long Meisuo pretended to be confused as she looked at the Principal.
”She …” She's a child here, just like my daughter. ” The dean wiped away the tears on his face and said to Long Meisuo.
”Where is she now?” Long Meisuo continued to ask.
”Twenty-five years ago, I lost my footing and died.” The dean's eyes were filled with grief as he said this.
”Dead?”
Long Meisuo's hand was tightly clenched. She had obviously thrown her away, so how could he say that she was dead?
”Did you see her fall?” Long Meisuo turned her head to look at the Principal beside him.
The Principal looked at Long Meisuo in confusion.
”Sorry, I lost my composure.” Long Meisuo realized that he had lost control of himself and retracted his gaze, lowering his head.
Normally, she was very good at controlling her emotions, but today, she lost her composure. After coming here, everything changed.
”I didn't see it with my own eyes. I lost her when I was taking her out. Later on, someone said that they saw a 5-year-old girl fall into the river. They searched for several days but couldn't find her and only found her shoes.” All these years, there was not a day that she didn't dream. Every time she dreamed, she would fall into the water, and if she wasn't careless, she wouldn't have left him.
