Du Liqing stopped walking, but she didn't turn around to look at Lu Juyan. He subconsciously wanted to escape, but he realized how difficult it was to raise his feet. A trace of panic flashed in his eyes as he habitually ignored the erratic heartbeat.
Inside the car, Lu Juyan undid the seatbelt on his body and slightly moved his body. He didn't even wait for him to get out of the car. As he walked down the stairs, his face was solemn and he anxiously said, ”Boss, let's go upstairs. There is a piece of information that I want you to personally check.”
”Sorry, I still have things to do, so I'll be leaving first.” Du Liangqing nodded to his colleague to show that she understood. He turned around and glanced at Lu Juyan, a perfunctory smile playing across his lips as he turned to leave.
She didn't know how to face Lu Juyan, so her footsteps unconsciously quickened. As she was going up the stairs, her shoes just happened to hit a bar on the stairs. She held onto the handrail to prevent herself from falling down. Ye Zichen felt a pang in his heart, and frantically covered her face with his hair, then continued to walk upstairs. On the surface, he pretended to be calm and collected, but his actions were somewhat similar to him fleeing in panic.
Lu Juyan kept staring at Du Liqing's figure, feeling stifled in his heart and suppressing his emotions. Even when Du Liqing disappeared from his line of sight, he did not retract his sight and only looked ahead absentmindedly.
It was unknown how much time had passed before Lu Juyan regained his senses. The sky outside the window had gradually darkened, and the street lamps had long since been lit up. Before he could go downstairs, he rolled down the window and drove away with great skill.
The two were just a second apart from each other. One was heading east, while the other was heading west. Neither of them had turned back, causing them to lose the opportunity to speak.
The next day, Lu Juyan followed the Western Australia investigation to Du Liqing's rented apartment. He saw Du Liqing heading downstairs, pretending to pass by her and stop beside her.
This caused Du Ruqing to feel somewhat puzzled. Before she could say anything, Lu Juyan had already pressed down on the window closest to her, his lips curling into a faint smile. His deep eyes were staring at her, as if he wanted to see through her. After a while, he said coolly, ”What a coincidence. Should I send you to work?”
”Hmm? ”No need, it's still early.” Du Liqing was briefly stunned before averting his eyes, not wanting to meet Lu Juyan's gaze too much. He subconsciously looked down at the time on his phone's screen to avoid embarrassment.
”By the way, I'll drive you.” Lu Juyan had no intention of letting Du Liqing off at this point. He unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car. He stood in front of Du Liqing, blocking her way. His tough attitude clearly showed what he had done and how he had spoken.
Du Ruqing looked at Lu Juyan, inexplicably feeling entangled with him. Annoyed, her good mood immediately dissipated. She could only helplessly nod her head when she noticed the gazes from the surrounding people.
”It's best if you don't come this way in the future.” The two of them got into the car. Du Liqing had just tied up his seat belt, so his gaze was focused on the road in front of them. He selectively ignored Lu Juyan's expression. After pondering for a moment, he pursed his lips and spoke in an indifferent manner.
She knew that Lu Juyan hadn't come here on the way and had purposefully driven over. She also knew that she couldn't have too much contact with Lu Juyan, not even if they were friends. Therefore, she could only choose to reject the offer and not give the other party too much hope. This way, no one would be disappointed.
Lu Juyan's hand, which was holding the steering wheel, paused for a moment. Out of the corner of her eyes, she looked at Du Ruqing, but didn't notice any hint of reluctance on her face. He felt an indescribable discomfort in his heart. His cold face showed nothing. He pretended to drive seriously while pretending not to understand and chose to stay silent out of habit.
