Chapter 1: Stand-in (1/2)

It was late at night.
Suffering a great deal of dizziness, Ye Shiwei felt as if she was lying on a layer of soft clouds and couldn’t feel the strength of struggle. Instead, she could only drift along.
She was taken to another world by that man.
Except him, she had no nobody else to rely on. So, she had to cling to him and let her body twined with his.
It was deadly quiet that night – until the heartbreaking pain struck her.
And a new life she would never have imagined started hereafter.
It was three o’clock in the morning.
Ye Shiwei turned over and made sure the man next to her was fast asleep before getting out of bed on tiptoes.
The moment her toes got in touch with the carpet, the pain came back to her. She felt like she was falling apart.
It was pitch-dark, and she didn’t get to discern that man’s face throughout her packing.
She clenched her teeth, took a deep breath and told herself that it was all just a nightmare and she would have no relation with all these in the future after walking out of here.
At the entrance of Kaiser Hotel, the girl standing in the corner walked towards Ye Shiwei, took off her mask and sunglasses and spoke in a low voice.
“Done?”
Ye Shiwei nodded.
“Great!” Probably also surprised by her own high voice, the girl quickly covered her mouth and looked around. After making sure no one had noticed it, she then sighed with relief, “All right, your mission’s done. Hurry to leave.”
Ye Shiwei did not move; instead she grabbed the girl by her arm.
“What about the thing you’ve promised me?”
The girl responded with full of impatience, “Go to my father for the money. Hurry up, don’t ruin my good thing. Otherwise, you won’t get a dime!”
Ye Shiwei released her hand and walked alone into the pouring rain.
The wind was bitterly cold, but that wasn’t how she felt for there was finally hope casting into her desperate life.
She was supposed to get a large sum of money when this was done. It would be enough to pay her mother’s medical bills.
There were still a few stops from where Ye Shiwei wanted to go, but there was no bus this time at night. Taking the taxi would also be too expensive. So, Ye Shiwei had to choose to go on foot.
Her face was wet, though it was unclear whether it was because of the rain or her tears.
