Chapter 1: My Beloved Character, Lumins (1)

“Boo…Hoo…Why are you doing this to Luminee!!”

I bawled my eyes out until my eyes were swollen and shouted at the screen of my smartphone screen. My smartphone screen was now covered with my tears, this marked the 15th time of Lumin’s death while I played the game.

My beloved character, Lumins Hadelf, was one of the ‘capture’ targets of the female-oriented otome game <Arlandast Saga>. <Arlandast Saga> is an authentic fantasy otome game. The heroine, a sorceress, goes on an adventure to save the kingdom and experienced some romance with her loved one. I like the concept and the RPG system of the game, I really like it a lot…

But the problem was my beloved character, Lumins.

There are five capture targets in the game, and when Lumins didn’t pair up with the heroine, he died. Even when he paired up with the heroine, that won’t guarantee his safety either. One wrong choice could lead him to death.

There were so many death flags that make me want to strangle the developer’s neck and ask whether it was necessary to put so many bad ending in otome games with RPG elements inside it. I was about to finish the last route of this game, which include Lumins and could be called as the main lead’s grand finale. This route makes me think.

‘This is the grand finale of the main lead route, Lumin won’t die, right?’

I started to play this last route with this hope. I was so relieved that Lumin was safe until the climax.  But he sacrificed himself when the final boss appeared so that he could save the heroine…

After he died, I pressed the screen like a madwoman and won the final boss battle. All the characters were happy and thrilled. But I felt so left out because I was so busy doing funeral in my brain for my favourite character.

The view of my phone screen started to change. It’s like revealing the secret behind everything that happened before. At the other ending, the truth behind the story wasn’t much revealed and it doesn’t feel like the good ending either. Maybe a god was sealed inside the final boss. And now the god appeared like a real hero to fix everything.
