30 Happiest day of my life (1/2)
We had finally coaxed Laurel out of her office. Or should I call her mom now? *Sigh* I dont know, Either way we coaxed her out of the office. Laurel and Alex walked in front while in walked behind them. Because ladies first you know? It definitely didn't have anything to do with watching Alex's firm backside sway as she walked. Or seeing her tail swish which was oddly seductive.
I let my mind wander as I followed the two women. They seemed to know where they were going. On the bright side I had noticed that abdomen was hurting much less than it had been before. My mothers healing spell really had done the trick. I could tell that her words were correct and that it would still take me a few days to heal. This did not bother me however, as it had been 2 months since I had seen any sort of civilization.
Shopping had been nice, but what I really wanted was to experience good food and a Drink or 5 from the bar on the first floor. I died young so I had never had a chance to really experience the world too much, especially with being raised in a poor family. Perhaps this is why I was so eager to buy a house. My mother had always traveled from one house in the slums to another. It would be nice to set down roots.
Before I noticed we had already left the Guild building and were once again in the city. The city itself was not as high tech as the guild, but I still managed to find the traces of magical technology. The streets were lined with lamps. Laurel explained to me that they were powered by a type of light spell. They gathered the light by day and cast the spell [Mage Light] at night. It was basically a solar powered lamp!
I heard the sound of music coming from a nearby shop, and was told that it was from a sound reciever. The sound was transmitted from a room in the tower. It was all done by magic. The world around me truly started to astound me. They were quite advanced in some aspects and in others they were lagging behind our world.
The biggest difference would have to be transportation. People traveled around mostly using carriages pulled by different types of beasts. More often they simply travelled on the beast itself or just walked.
There also wasn't anything like indoor plumbing. all of the townsfolk took their water from wells, or if they were magicians they conjured water from the air. This was one of the main reasons public baths existed. When I asked about human waste they looked at me and blinked, but eventually told me about the improvised toilets they had. They were installed with an incinerator powered by fire type magic that would remove the waste once a day. They did not smell the best, but were at least semi sanitary. About on par with a public bathroom in a super center.
There were plenty of other differences, but it would take me litterally days to discuss them all. Suffice it to say that it was a surprisingly modern world but had plenty of medieval elements.
My stomache growled as we passed a street vendor selling a delicious smelling food. The girls both looked at me, before realizing their own hunger. By an unspoken agreement we all went to the stall. I found that they were selling a type of noodles that had plenty of different vegetables in it. It was all smothered in a sauce that reminded me of soy sauce but was spicier with a bolder flavor. Needless to say it was delicious. Compared to the plain roasted fish I had been eating for the last few days it was rather heavenly.
We ate as we walked, and before long we found ourselves at a modest sized building. When we walked in we were greeted a rabbit Beastman who was mostly human in appearance. She had a cute face, but was not even comparable to Alex. After a flashing her a brief smile Laurel began to speak.
”My daughter is looking for a place to lay down roots. Price is not an object. She is looking for something peaceful, a single bedroom would be fine.”
I interrupted her. ”Two bedroom! we need two bedrooms!”
She looked at me for a moment. ”Do you have another roommate that I don't know about? A second room will not be needed if its just you too. Alex hasn't been able to sleep alone since she was a child.”
Alex blushed but nodded. ”I..It's true. I have to sleep with someone else. Beastmen can't manage to fall asleep alone.”
The bunny girl behind that was listening also nodded at this. ”What she says is correct. It's a rather odd aspect of our species.. but *Shrugs* we make great snugglers.”
We ended up looking at a total of 5 houses. Each of them nicer, and more expensive than the last. All of them were single bedroom. Before we even entered the fifth house I had decided it was the one I was going to take. It looked like a small cottage, and it was on the outskirts of the city. Just barely inside of the walls. The back part of the property was litterally taken up by the massive wall. The wall would cast shade on the place at night, which was ok by me.
