Chapter 50 - Those Eyes (2/2)

Lu Man did not know how to explain her dreams.

It seemed like after the accident when she was nineteen, she started to have this nightmare. In her dreams, she would see a pair of eyes. They were not fierce or cruel, but she had a strange fear for them. Fear from the bottom of her heart.

She was not timid, but she was afraid of that pair of eyes for unknown reasons.

When she saw those eyes appear right in front of her in real life, she could not do anything. Her fear suddenly just came and drowned her.

The old lady glanced at Lu Man once and sat down. She did not show any particular expression on her face.

“Manman, greet Grandmother.” Pei Xiuyuan reminded Lu Man with a whisper in her ear. “I am here, don’t be scared.”

He held her hand tightly. Was it because she was too scared that her hand was this cold in such a hot summer?

She was not a timid person. His grandmother was not a fierce woman. Why was she so scared?

“Grandmother…” Lu Man said with her head lowered down. She did not dare to look into her eyes.

“Call me Old Lady.” Apparently, the old lady had not accepted this granddaughter-in-law yet.

Wang Yunxi was so happy when she heard it. It seemed Grandmother disliked her without even needing them to make it happen! Great!

Pei Xiuyuan was not happy at all. “Grandmother, are you telling me to address you as ‘Old Lady’ as well in the future? Don’t you feel estranged from me?”

His tone was not cold or forceful, but it was a bit coquettish. He was juggling between the two of them, trying to defend his wife while not opposing his grandmother.

His effort was not appreciated. The old lady was irritated. “Are you threatening me?”

How dare he threaten her because of that woman! Damn it!

He was totally bewitched by that woman!

“Grandmother, why would I do so? Don’t you know that I am being coquettish?” When hearing a fully grown man say this, everyone at the table twitched their lips. They could never imagine how he was acting in a coquettish way!

The old lady was dumbfounded.

“Manman, bring out the present that you have prepared for Grandmother.” Pei Xiuyuan came close to her and told her softly.

His mother had died young. And when he was fifteen, his father passed away too. He was still too young to lead the family by then, so his grandmother had taken the role as the head of the family before he was capable of doing so. She might be a bit old-fashioned and tough, but she was still his grandmother, his family, so he hoped that she and his wife would get along well.

“Yes.” Although Lu Man was not fully calmed down, she was still aware of what she should do. She was sure that they had not met with each other before as they had very different social backgrounds. She could feel that Pei Xiuyuan was hoping that she could make the old lady happy and that they could get along. So, she could not ruin their first meeting just because of a nightmare!

She presented the gift to the old lady.

“Grandmother, this is the tea that Xiuyuan told me you have always liked.” She held the box with two hands and brought it to the front of the old lady.

The old lady looked at her coldly. She did not show it on her face, but her emotions were stirring. Was it a fate? She had never thought that she would someday be with Xiuyuan and be her granddaughter-in-law!

She did not take the present. Lu Man stood there not knowing what to do. She felt very awkward.
