Chu Muzhi’s attention was on the other girls. His laser-focused attention was one of the traits that attracted girls around him. Even so, the girl who was fleeing, frightened by his own brother, was enough to draw his attention. He smiled sinisterly with a hint of lewdness.
“I’d say, Second Brother, you really ought to learn how to read the atmosphere from time to time. That girl that you scared away… she’s good looking, no??”
Qiao Yanli had never liked this sort of establishment. The loud music and blinding lights were never to his liking. If it were not for Fu Yan and Qiu Shaoze, who he was welcoming back from overseas, he would have spent his precious time with his wife.
However, his wife was, in actuality, giving him a surprise.
Chu Muzhi noticed how his brother was not bothered to respond. His gaze was locked on to the lead dancer, dancing sprightly around the metal pole. Chu Muzhi’s smile grew even more lewd. Without a word, he pushed a girl, dressed in an half-opaque clothing, away from him and slid next to his brother.
“Second Brother, do you really like that lead dancer? Should I call her over?”
Qiao Yanli’s gaze finally drifted, sighing at the never-taking-things-seriously brother of his and said, “I’m married.”
Eyes widened in disbelief, Chu Muzhi laughed. His slightly slanted eyes shot to the other two men in the same booth, saying, “Big brother, Shaoze, can you believe what he just said? The man, who’d once declared he would never marry anyone besides Meng Yao, now says he is married! Hah! What kind of joke is this? Did I miss something? Is it already the first of april?”
As soon as the name Meng Yao was mentioned, the already artificially-chilled booth felt colder all of a sudden. Only then did he realize that he had touched a nerve.
“Second Brother, Third Brother is only joking. He’s not saying Sister-In-Law’s name on purpose. Please don’t take it out on him,” the ever-so gentle Qiu Shaoze chimed in quickly.
Qiao Yanli lowered his head and clamped a newly lit cigar in between his lips. The tip of the bud glowed more intensely as he drew in a deep breath. Everyone was then watching his every move, fearing that he would be offended and do something rash. Puffs of smoke were let out and only after some time, when the first clump of ashes had dropped from the bud of the cigar, did he speak, “Enough with the sister-in-law Meng Yao nonsense, she is no one now. Your sister-in-law’s name is Xia Yanxi. Remember that.”
Everyone shared the same look of incredulity when Qiao Yanli made that declaration. Even Fu Yan, puffing out smoke like a train, turned to look at Qiao Yanli.
