Chapter 84 (2/2)
“Ninth Huang Shu went out of the city for work, he hasn’t come back yet.” Yin Qiao bowed towards Jing Yue and spoke.
“…… Alright, tell me if he’s back.” Jing Yue sighed helplessly and went back into the room. She waited for a long time but still didn’t see Xiao Chen come back, even Xing Yi’s and Xing Er’s traces couldn’t be seen. She waited and waited until evening finally came. Jing Yue couldn’t help but yawn. She could no longer bear and finally fell asleep.
Jing Yue was sleeping comfortably. In her half-awake state, she suddenly felt that there was a pair of hands taking her clothes off. Although the movement was very gentle, Jing Yue could still somewhat feel it. She frowned, half wanting to continue sleeping, half wanting to wake up. For a time she even thought that she
was dreaming.
However, when Jing Yue felt a thread of cold air on her skin, she trembled for a moment and opened her eyes. She looked down, only to see her clothing had been taken off leaving only a dudou. Suddenly, Jing Yue started to scream in fright, “Aaaaah……!”
“Shut up!” a cold shout was heard. Jing Yue covered her mouth with her hands, staring in fright at Xiao Chen who had an angry look on his whole face. She was speechless for quite a while.
“You…… You…… Why are you being so hungry, so thirsty like this? I am only fourteen years old!” Jing Yue said, firmly hugging herself, staring at Xiao Chen with a face full of accusation.
“What kind of dirty things your head is loaded with?” Xiao Chen’s face went black. He stared coldly at Jing Yue and said, “Today, you were attacked? Let me see whether or not you have injuries.”
Jing Yue was a bit dumbfounded. She blinked her eyes staring at Xiao Chen and asked, “E…… You took my clothes off to see whether or not I have injuries?”
“En.” Xiao Chen indifferently answered with a word before lowering his gaze, saying, “I’ve just learnt about it after I came back, sorry.” Xiao Chen spoke with a slightly sluggish breath while leaning over to stare at Jing Yue. The self-blame as well as regret in his eyes made Jing Yue’s heart tremble. She pursed her lips and hung her head down, she didn’t dare to look at Xiao Chen face to face.

This lowly commoner (草民/ Cǎomín): used by commoners to address themselves when towards higher ranking people. I haven’t explained this but in previous chapters, when the Empress and Imperial Consorts talk to everyone except the Emperor, they used ‘本宮/ běngōng’ but it was rather awkward for me to wrote the ‘I of the palace’ every time they spoke, so I just wrote ‘I’. When they talked to the Emperor, they used ‘臣妾/ chénqiè’ to address themselves. You can check here for more detailed and complete list of Chinese honorifics.
