“Mom,Are the high position and great wealth really more important than your daughter’s happiness?”
Hearing that,Tang’s mother was angry andpokedTang Yao’s forehead. What a shiftless daughter? She thought.
“Tang Yao,don’t give me all that lecture about happiness. It’s the Gu family that provide you with the life you live today. Look at all the property of their family! Shaoze hooked up with another woman,so what? How could you ever have the right to say something about him? You couldhave had a baby by yourself. It has been so many years that you donot get pregnant. It’s nice of them not to kick you out of the house.”
Speaking of children,Tang’smother patted Tang Yao’s stomach. “All women can give birth. You are not even better than a hen. At least they can have eggs.You’d better stick with Shaoze. Do not get divorce.If you do that,I will hangmyselfdirectly in front of you.”
Tang Yao’s face was cold.She just drily looked at her mother.
The mother felt a little guilty when seeing she looked at her like this. Butwhen she thought of Tang Yao’s performance in the Gu’s,she just felt irritated.
“Better cheer up when go downstairs to have dinner. Say something nice to your mother-in-law. Don’t act like a dead fish.”She constantly lecturedTang Yao.
Looking at Tang Yao’s cold face,themother was angry and anxious,but also knew that Tang Yaowas their money-spinner. If she cursed her toomuch,maybe Yao would have a reverse mind,so she eased the tone.
“Yao Yao,Mom just said that for your good. Love is fantasy,not as good as money. You must stick with Shaoze. even if he has a bastardoutside,it is nota big deal as long as you own all the property of the Gu’s.”
Tang Yaotook out her hand without anyexpression,and ask her mother to go out. She wanted to have a rest.
Tang’s mother was angry,butlookingat the exhaustion of Tang Yao,she was finally aware that she was a mother too.
“Then you go rest first. Remember to please your mother-in-law at dinner. As long as she is happy,your life will be better at Gu’s.”
Tang Yaodid not answer,but the atmosphere around herbecame even colder.
The mother humiliated herself so leftsoon.
Tang Yaohadbeen standing by the window,thinking nothing in hermind,just looking at the scenery outside.
At dinner,Tang Yaodid not see the eyes of her mother,but only concentrated on eating the dishes in front of her,and did not talk to Gu Shaoze beside her.
At the other side,Mrs. Gu wasgave Gu shaozea soup eagerly.
Gu shaozetook a sip and felt that it tasted good,so he gave Tang Yao one more soup.
“Yao Yao,drink this. Fish soup cannourishthe body.”
Tang Yaolooked at the extra bowl,looked chilly,pushed the bowl slightly to otherside,and then concentrated on eating the rice in herbowl.
“Pa”,Mrs. Gu dropped her chopsticks.
“Mom,if you don’t like the food,I can askthe chef cookanother one.” Gu shaozelooked at Mrs. Gu and said.
Mrs. Gu took a deep breath and flashed a warning glance at Tang Yao,and then picked up the chopsticks again.
“Nothing,you eat more.”She said.Gu shaozenodded.
“Yao Yao,there is a charity galatomorrow night,organized by Jinfamily of Jin City. Go with me.”
“I have somethingto dotomorrow.”
“No matter what,put off your business. You are my wife,going with me to meet some people. It will help your work.”
Tang Yaowas silent and did not respond.
“Brother,I am going with you. Actually I got some feelings about the second son of the Jingfamily. You can help to introduce me to him.”Gu Shaoyun said.
Gu shaozefrowned,but nodded.
“Tang Yao,my brotherbought you a lot of good-looking clothes not long ago. Borrow a few dresses to me. Anyway,the clothes would not look any good on you bumpkin.”Gu Shaoyun held her chopsticks and said scornfully with some provocation.
Gu shaoze’s face turneddarkand warned Gu Shaoyun. “Shaoyun,she is your sister-in-law. If youkeep being rude like this,you won’t get a chance to go to the gala with us.”
