36 Natural Selection IV (1/2)

There were quite a few mysteries Nero and Nova were yet to unravel. Mainly because they had no concrete information, to begin with, but also because of the little time they had.

There was one mystery that they had tried to unravel but only reached a few flawed hypothesesé... The mystery of a mage's 'Aura'.

There were a lot of things about Aura that Nero couldn't understand.

To begin with, how did Nero's aura affect one's mind with his intent - the intent, to dominate that is.

Nero searched and surveyed other Hunters and the one Slayer he knew.

He found out a lot about aura but no answers to the questions he had.

He compiled a list of all 'rules' the concept of Aura revolves around.

-An aura is released when all pores of one's body open to emit mana.

- Hunters have a very hard time to even partially release their aura.

- Slayers are able to fully emit their aura at the amateur stage. Without being able to, they cannot advance any further.

- Without a complete Aura, it is very hard to tell what the intent of that Aura is.

- it is impossible to hide one's Aura normally.

- The greater one's ability to emit aura is, the less straining it is to bring forth greater amounts of mana. When one can fully emit mana, the only differing factor is the Aura itself.

- when one's complete aura is emitted, people around it are mentally affected. This effect gives the people a feel of the intent one's mana manipulation is built upon, like Nero's intent to dominate and Captain Killian's intent to destroy.

-

”Illegitimate Royal.”

These were the words that left the crowd agasp.

'Nova this is a bad idea, why didn't our potential get hidden?'

'I don't know why, but right now, we need protection... protection from the aristocrats for the days to come.'

Spite ran deep throughout every hierarchy, such a power move from Nova completely tip the already favoured balance in the Royals' favour.

There was deep reasoning behind Nova's white lie.

It achieved a number of things; the crowd's focus, the potential deterrent to the Queen taking interest to him because he was, after all, family blood and this world also tabooed even the slightest incest. These were the main things achieved.

On top of that, it also prevented Aristocrats from targeting him, in their eyes, his value was sky high, but it was the same in the Royals' eyes, making them think he was heavily guarded.

There was nobody on the island that could resist the Queen, she was at, what was thought to be, the apex of mana manipulation.

Captain Killian may have a stronger backer but on Plumon, he was just another prey in the eyes of the Queen.

No secret art or spell could change the outcome in a battle between a Demon and a Slayer. It could occur between Hunters and Slayers, but the exponential strength growth from after reaching Slayer is a gap unfillable.

Every illegitimate child born from the Royal family had been instantly accepted after birth, no exception had existed ever since.

And, every one of them was known to the public as a part of the Royal family... except clearly it was otherwise.

This boy here, with a sweet unhindered smile, was an illegitimate child born of the Royal family, unknown to the world, and even the King, by the looks of his shocked face.

”Impossible! Listen here, boy, answer my question truthfully, are you of Royal Blood?” the king suddenly glowed deep orange, commanding mana into his eyes.
