842 When Did You Become so Obedient? (1/2)

He said he would lower his head first…

Lin Xuanji froze, she was astonished by his words. It's been so many years, even when they fought with each other so badly, he had never once backed down and lowered his head. He was never willing to lower his head. But now, after a few decades, he had finally learned to lower his head and back down.

She smirked. ”Lu Jinwen, you've spent 20 years learning to lower your head and I've spent 20 years learning to never lift up my head. It's not just because I don't want to lift my head anymore, but it's because I've used up all of my energy on you.”

Lu Jinwen's expression turned stern as he looked at her.

Her gaze had changed ever since she came back, all the love, hate and other emotions had all disappeared. All that was left behind in was tenderness in her gaze, a motherly kind of warmth.

But he knew she hadn't forgotten about the past. She hadn't forgotten about it all.

She hadn't forgotten about the pain she had suffered through. She just chose to disregard him, she was smart enough to not fight against him anymore. She just chose to be… cold-hearted towards him.

Just like now, even when he lowered his head, she would never lift her head again.

He understood that even if he put in the effort and spent the rest of his life trying to get her back, he wouldn't ever be able to be alongside her. She was already too far away from him.

A sardonic smile hinted at the edge of his lips. ”It's fine, I've led a normal life that wasn't great, yet wasn't too bad when I was with you. You claim that you'd never lift your head again, but from what I can remember, you've never actually lifted your head before. I've never felt your love for me at all.”

And look, wasn't he still alive and living even without her love? He didn't feel anything different, he didn't feel like he had lost anything at all.

She had been far away from him all this while.

Looking in the man's eyes, Lin Xuanji raised her brows. ”You're correct about that, you've never felt my love for you at all. A woman who sent you into that deadly place, Bangkok No.1, how could she even love you? I pretended to be mentally unsound for two whole years and staged an escape, even sleeping with Jun Mosheng and giving birth to his son. My older sister on the other hand took in the toxic gas and ruined her health just for you. Compared with my betrayal, she has true feelings for you.”

He had always assumed that she didn't love him enough, or rather, she didn't love him at all.

And so he had never experienced bliss, and also never experienced loss.

Lu Jinwen's face instantly turned somber once she mentioned the past. Though he hadn't shown any emotions on his face, his voice was low and almost dangerous. ”You can shut up now, I don't want to hear you talk anymore.”

Shut up.

He wanted her to shut up.

Once she mentioned the past, he had suddenly become hostile. Lin Xuanji coughed, she felt a weird taste in her mouth.

”What's the matter?” A cold voice interrupted her silent inner musing. Lin Xuanji's eyes watered from the cough and she lifted her head to look at him before she let out a chuckle.

Lu Jinwen felt a twinge in his chest, why did she have to look at him with such a gaze?

What kind of gaze was that even?

It was one of regret, languidness, pity and somewhat like she had successfully taken her revenge.

Her eyes were beautiful when they shone, so many years had passed but they were still as beautiful as they were before.

She didn't speak, and Lu Jinwen's heart sank even more. His voice was somewhat annoyed. ”Are you a mute? I asked you a question, why did you cough?”

He then lowered his head, placing his cheek on her forehead and nuzzling against her. ”You caught a cold?”

Her temperature was normal, she didn't have a fever.

Once she felt the man nuzzling himself against her to feel her body temperature, she stretched her arm to push him away. ”You were the one who asked me to shut up, I'm fine.”

He had asked her to shut up earlier on and so she stopped speaking, not even uttering a single word.

Lu Jinwen opened the passenger seat's door and placed her on the seat, his movements light and gentle. He let out a chuckle and said, ”When did you become so obedient? You really shut up when I asked you to shut up, hm? What if I say that I wanna sleep with you tonight, are you gonna let me sleep with you?”
