Chapter 288 Big Trouble (1/2)

The huntresses on black panthers attacked swiftly and were so fast that the pirate spellcasters had no means to conjure an effective attack. The sparse fireballs and icicles were of no use; they dodged them easily as those black panthers were both lightning-fast and unbelievably agile.

”Quick, stop them, now!”

The sudden appearance of the elven army on his home ground shocked the one-eyed man. He split his forces into two halves, one to defend against the elven army and the other to accelerate his attack on the Wissen Castle. His split-second decision soon proved to be disastrous.

The help of the elven forces significantly boosted the morale of the remaining soldiers atop the city walls. They quickly loaded up their Pear Blossom Crossbows and fired fiercely at the pirates. Sharp arrows rained on the pirates like an endless stretch of a thunderstorm, while longbow archers targeted spellcasters who stood outside the crossbow range, one by one.

At the same time, over a hundred huntresses launched their attack as piercingly sharp arrows left their bows. Their arrows are far from ordinary -- these are Light Arrows which could deal rebounding damage. When a light arrow lands on a pirate, the arrow will bounce off him to hit other targets near him. The arrow will then bounce off again and again until all energy is depleted.

When over a hundred huntresses attack at the same time, their attacks will continuously bounce off their targets. Although the damage will decrease by 50% after each rebound, the final stacked up damage can be quite horrifying. Its power was almost on par with the Pear Blossom Crossbows.

Elven archers stood behind the huntresses. The eeriest thing about them is that they would vanish around 200 yards from the pirates merging as one with the darkness. Out of nowhere, they would suddenly appear behind their backs and shoot them fatally, then disappear once more!

”Quick, shield bearers, quick!”

”Magic Barrier, now!”

Unlike pirates that were usually unorganized, the pirates led by the one-eyed black-clad man were well trained, well versed and well-coordinated. They needn't wait for the one-eyes man's instructions, as the spellcasters had joined hands to raise an Earth Element Magic Barrier. It stopped the countless arrows showering from above, as well as the sneak arrows from the elven archers.

”Trueshot Aura!”

Sofia reached the heart of the battlefield on the back of her white tiger. She murmured for a moment, then waved her right hand. At once, be it huntresses on black panthers of elven archers holding onto angle bows, a golden ring appeared under everyone's feet.

The huntresses and the elven archers dealt with critical damage at burst speeds. However, there was nothing much they could do when the pirates hid behind shields and magic barriers. Under the effect of the Trueshot Aura bestowed by Sofia, the Moon Priestess, the attack of their bows increased more than two folds.

Whoosh... ...

After an all-blanketing aerial arrow attack, the magic barriers of the pirates finally fell apart under the heavy, relentless assaults of the elves. The shield bearers at the outer ring quickly lost their lives as mighty arrows pierced through their shields and into their fatal points, such as their skulls or hearts.

”Quick, protect the spellcasters. Kill them with magic!” ordered the one-eyes black-clad man as he saw just how dominant the elves were on the battlefield. However, it was too late!

He should have concentrated all of his attacks at the huntresses or the elven archers. If so, even if he could not injure their forces, he could at least force them to keep a distance. However, after splitting his troops, all he suffered was losses on both sides.

Relieved of the suppression from fireballs and icicles, the soldiers atop the city walls unleashed their anger with the Pear Blossom Crossbows. No matter how many pirates there are, they could not possibly breach their line of defense. Coupled with the almost insane targeted shootings by the longbow archers, spellcasters who could not dodge the attacks were all shot to death one after another.

At the same time, the invisible elven archers focused on attacking the remaining half of the spellcasters. Spellcasters are naturally slower than warriors by more than two times. They had only a thin layer of armor to protect their physical bodies. Those light armors could not hold against the sharp arrows of the elven archers.

If the huntresses and elven archers brought intense suffering to the pirates, the Druids that quickly followed scared them out of their wits.

A dozen druids let out deafening howls as they promptly evolved into a five-meter tall raging bear. A slam of their paws and a muscular pirate would be crushed into meat pie; if they caught you by the legs, they would tear you into half!

A massive body, razor claws, and an astounding defense... ...

Raging and blood-thirsty druids charged into the pirates like a meat mincer, cutting through their formation like a sharp knife. Their formation soon fell apart.

”Everybody attack!”

As soon as he saw the pirates demolished by the elven army, the City Defense Commander took the chance immediately. He led the soldiers on horsebacks and charged out with a long whistle. The Pear Blossom Crossbows firing at near distances claimed the lives of many pirates. They could not even dodge the arrows, much less counterattacking.

”Wissen Castle. I will be back!”

The one-eyed black-clad man looked at the fearsome elven army, then turned to the unstoppable cavalry that just emerged from the Wissen castle. He understood that he had lost. He gritted his teeth and gave the order to retreat. Under the protection of the tens of guards that remained, they went straight for the Donau River.

”Kill, kill them all!”

”Quick, don't let them get away!”
