Chapter 302 - Life had to go on (1/2)
In her husband's arms, Wan Jia cried for a long time. She became exhausted and fell asleep.
When she woke up, Lu Aotian was playing with Little Jia in the backyard. He had helped her take a day off from school. Little Jia looked as though everything was alright. If it wasn't for the medical report she had looked at again before leaving the master bedroom, she would have believed that what happened last night was just an illusion. Life was going on as usual.
”Daddy, Brownie is growing up!” Little Jia exclaimed as she held the playful kitten in her arms. When her aunt Lin Lihua gifted it to her, it was a tiny little thing; almost as tiny as someone's palm. It had now grown bigger, plumper and fluffier.
Lu Aotian looked at the white little thing that liked clinging to him. ”How fat.”
Little Jia's expression turned stale. ”Daddy, you meanie! My Brownie is not fat! She's just fluffy and cute.” How could her father say such a thing as fat to a girl? It was mean even if he was talking about the kitten.
Lu Aotian smiled at her dotingly. ”Little Jia is right; Brownie is just cuter.”
Little Jia looked at her father with her head tilted. ”Is Daddy feeling unwell?”
She stuck out her little palm to her father's forehead to feel if he had a fever. She had a very serious expression on her face, as though she was a doctor running very important tests.
”No.” Lu Aotian answered.
”Then Daddy is feeling sad?” Before he could answer her, she stood up and pulled his hand with both of her tiny hands. ”If Daddy is feeling sad, we should go for a dance. It always works wonders.”
Lu Aotian felt a smile surface on his lips. How could his daughter be so cute? ”Even if I was feeling sad before, I would feel happy because my princess is here.”
Little Jia's little heart almost jumped in happiness. Her father's words made her feel very important. Hearing that he wasn't sad, she asked him to lower his head, and then rubbed his hair. It was the same way he rubbed her hair when praising her, as though she was telling him that he was a good child.
Lu Aotian hugged his daughter and kissed her soft little cheeks. Indeed, this little girl could tell his suppressed feelings no matter how well he hid them.
Such a cute and loving child. Why did her luck have to be so bad? First it was having to spend three years of her life without her mother. Now, just a year and a few weeks after reuniting with her mother, she had leukemia? He couldn't help but blame himself for both. Perhaps her immunity weakened because she was separated from her mother as a newborn?
The soft pair of hands that covered his eyes interrupted his thoughts. ”What are you thinking about?” Wan Jia sat beside him and asked. ”You didn't convince me against blaming myself so you can start blaming yourself, did you?”
”I cooked lunch for the both of you. It's so delicious!” She was so cheerful that Lu Aotian cheered up too.
Little Jia who knew nothing about what was going on in her body was the happiest. ”Did mommy bake a raspberry cake for Little Jia's dessert?”
Wan Jia peered at her husband. ”I didn't, but if your Daddy agrees to it, I will.”
”Daddy, daddy!” the little girl instantly switched to her cutesy mode.
