A police car followed them.

Sitting in the car with the window down, Lin Chuan let the cool evening breeze, carrying the fragrance of grass and trees, wash over his face as he took a deep breath.

“You two also be careful on your way back,” he said as he got out of the car at the entrance of Happiness Community and gave Shen Qianqian and Xia Qingqing a word of warning.

The two police officer friends both nodded with a smile, “Don’t worry.”

Lin Chuan watched as Shen and Xia left.

Inside Happiness Community, the streetlights shone lonely, casting a warm yellow light and outlining Lin Chuan’s figure, with the Little Landlady beside him, tightly clutching his arm.

“It’s okay now,” Lin Chuan said softly, patting the back of the Little Landlady’s hand in reassurance.

He knew that even though he wasn’t worried about the ten thugs, the Little Landlady beside him was surely worried.

“I’m not afraid,” said the Little Landlady with a genuine smile, hugging Lin Chuan’s arm, feeling inexplicably secure.

Lin Chuan raised an eyebrow, “You’re that brave, huh? You weren’t scared of all those people?”

“With you here, I’m not afraid,” the Little Landlady said, lifting her face and affectionately nuzzling Lin Chuan’s arm like a kitten.

Laughter bubbled on Lin Chuan’s face, “Time to go to sleep.”

“I sleep alone…” The Little Landlady showed a hint of trepidation on her face.

“Don’t worry, I’m here,” Lin Chuan reassured her.

“Ah?” The Little Landlady was startled.

“Let’s go,” said Lin Chuan with a smile, pulling the Little Landlady up to the rented apartment on the sixth floor.

The Little Landlady’s mouth pursed ever so slightly, a blush of embarrassment across her pretty face, but her rich theoretical knowledge gave her a great deal of courage, “Chairman, I brought a few special outfits.”

Lin Chuan was taken aback for a moment but then laughed, “I only meant for you to sleep in my room. You won’t be in danger, I didn’t mean for you to sleep with me. What are you thinking?”

The Little Landlady pouted slightly, looking a bit disappointed, “I thought we’d sleep together.”

“Well, that’s not urgent,” Lin Chuan replied with the corner of his mouth twitching.

Blinking playfully, the Little Landlady teased, “Is there anything more urgent than that?”
