Chapter 16 (2/2)
Zuo Hancheng noticed that the bag was filled with nothing but low-quality makeup and some metallic jewelry, and he threw them into the trash bin without hesitation.
Anhao stood up to stop him, but as soon as she stood up she was enveloped by the clean fragrance of body soap from the man, those curses that were at the corner of her mouth were swallowed back abruptly.
Still, she raised her gaze angrily, like a kitten that had someone stepped on its tail, how she wished she could bite him to death.
Zuo Hancheng pressed on the girl’s head, he knew that she was about to vent at him, and his big palm gently patted her hair.
He seemed to know why she was angry, and chose the right time to soothe the tail he had stepped on before it turned into a fight. “What I told you yesterday, have you forgotten? You’re not allowed to go to the bar.”
Anhao balled her hands into fists, making cracking sounds. “No one has ever controlled me! Who do you think you are!”
Zuo Hancheng replied as if he did not hear a word she said, “Get rid of all these junk food and things unrelated to your academics in your bag.”
Anhao remembered that there was still a box of fake eyelashes and a temporary hair curler in her bag, after hearing him say that she subconsciously turned to protect her bag, but was a second too late.
Seeing those random objects in her bag, that so-called school bag that did not even have a single book inside, Zuo Hancheng’s expression became so dark it was hard to describe.
“Hey! Hey! Don’t throw them away!
“Hey! Zuo Hancheng! Don’t throw them away, I still need them… You…”
Ever since yesterday, all of Anhao’s stuff had been completely revealed to him, for a moment, she felt like she was standing fully exposed in front of a stranger, not knowing what to do, not having any sense of security.
All the things that she had relied on and used as a disguise for five years were being thrown away one by one, Anhao swallowed her frustration and said through gritted teeth, “Zuo Hancheng, why did you marry me!”
“Do you not remember what happened a month ago?”
“I remember! I even recall that nothing happened between you and me! It was just Gu Shishi and the others that tried to put the blame on me to force me into a dead end!”
Anhao glared at him. “You knew that they were not kind people! Why did you agree? Since I’m so imperfect and unreliable, and since you dislike me so much, why did you still marry me?”
Zuo Hancheng threw her empty bag to the sofa beside her, looked at her for a moment, before his voice that was as cool as clear spring sounded, “I was passing through a mud swamp, saw a little kitty that had fallen into a puddle of mud and almost drowned. Do I save it, or do I not?”
Anhao could not remember when was the last time she cried, but she did not know why, her eyes felt hot.
She bit her lips and muttered, “Now that you have saved me, do you need to be so serious about it?”
Zuo Hancheng did not look at her again, and he went to the kitchen.
Anhao’s gaze followed his silhouette, and she heard him say to her lightly with his back to her, “When the little kitty was saved, mud was stuck on its eyes, it couldn’t see the path in front and it had lost its direction. It just so happened that I had some time, and I was feeling somewhat compassionate, so I brought the little kitty home and cleaned it up, that’s all.”
It was a metaphor that could not have been clear enough, it had completely blocked all the unwillingness and angry hurls at the corner of her mouth.
She glared at Zuo Hancheng’s silhouette, moved her lips, as if wanting to say something, but abruptly withheld herself.
It had been five years since anyone had ever controlled her, no one knew what happened to her five years ago, and no one would care if her eyes were blinded and that she was lost, no one would care whether she would be able to find her way in life.
In her eyes, the present and the future were the same, it was just a grayish fog, living day by day, there was nothing to hope for and look forward to.
