Chapter 610 - Chapter 610: Chapter Six Hundred and Sixteen (2/2)
Su Wenyue shook her head, saying nothing, by which she tacitly agreed with Brother Chen’s words. Honestly, she believed that although children should not be overly pampered and indulged, there was no need to be too strict. Children ought to have some freedom; Brother Chen was just fine the way he was – lively and mischievous yet wise, showing a childish side only in front of her.
As for Brother Xing, Su Wenyue’s heart was filled with affection and guilt towards this son whom she always wanted to make up to. He was mature beyond his years, filial to his parents, and looked after his younger siblings, never giving her any trouble, unlike the behavior you’d expect from a child of his age.
And as for little Sister Yu, Su Wenyue found herself at a loss for words. It didn’t seem like she was her daughter. Brother Xing was sensible and composed, which she understood may have been due to that reason, maybe he was still the Brother Xing from her previous life. But Sister Yu, born a perfectly normal baby girl, had grown to embody the grace of a young lady from a noble family, making Su Wenyue feel ashamed at times.
At such a young age, Sister Yu had learned everything that was asked of her, not needing any pushing; on her own accord, she sought to learn everything a young woman should know, asking her mother to hire tutors and old women, not willing to fall behind in any area. Sometimes, when Su Wenyue wasn’t paying attention and made mistakes, Sister Yu would even offer a few encouraging words.
With such excellent children, Su Wenyue was proud and gratified but also felt immense pressure.
The mother and children laughed and joked for a while before Su Wenyue truly joined the three in the courtyard to watch them practice the martial arts Han Yu had taught. They looked quite skilled, and even Sister Yu, a girl, practiced the set of movements with proper form.
Originally, Sister Yu, being a girl, didn’t need to learn martial arts. Fighting was not considered suitable for girls, but considering the chaotic times and the fact that she was with her parents, danger was much greater. Even a girl needed to learn some self-defense to better protect herself, for even with their parents’ best efforts, there could always be unexpected dangers. Luckily, Sister Yu was willing and even had a natural talent for it.
After spending the entire evening with the children, Su Wenyue put them to bed after dinner and watched them fall asleep before returning to her own room. The night had already deepened, and Han Yu had not come back yet. Su Wenyue decided to work on her needle and thread while she waited for him.
Han Yu hadn’t sent anyone to send a message tonight, which meant he was likely to come back to spend the night; only the exact time of his return was uncertain. In this matter, Han Yu did very well. If he wasn’t coming home, he always sent someone in advance to notify her, so she wouldn’t have to wait in vain or worry.
Even when he came back, Han Yu had repeatedly told her not to wait up for him and to rest early instead. Work in the military camp often kept him busy until late, and he worried that she would ruin her health.
She knew how to reassure Han Yu and didn’t make a show of being a virtuous wife but simply followed his wishes. This indeed gave Han Yu peace of mind and allowed him to focus more on his duties outside the home.
Tonight, Han Yu returned exceptionally late—close to midnight—when Su Wenyue heard some noise outside, and quickly stood up.
