Chapter 13 – 13 Not Responding to Messages
“`
At four o’clock in the morning the next day, the alarm sound rang through Chen Yu’s Bluetooth earpiece.
Not wanting to disturb Tuan Tuan’s sleep, he had deliberately worn the earpiece, fearing that the alarm would wake her up as well.
Yet to his surprise, as soon as he got up, he found Tuan Tuan sitting noisily on the bed, looking at him through the small bed window.
“How come you’re awake so early?” Chen Yu immediately tensed up and subconsciously checked if his phone’s sound was playing out loud.
“I went to bed early last night, so of course I woke up early today! Besides, how could Dad manage all by himself without me?”
As she spoke, Tuan Tuan turned on the light, getting dressed with a little excitement.
These past few days, she had experienced the joy of earning money, especially when the notification of each payment sounded, she felt an inexplicable excitement.
Chen Yu helplessly exited the driver’s cab, unfolded the food cart’s counter, and lit up all the fairy lights around the cart.
“Tuan Tuan! Once we’ve saved enough money to buy a house, you can sleep at home, and you won’t have to get up early and work late with Dad!”
“I don’t want that!”
Tuan Tuan pouted her small mouth: “I want to help Dad earn money and then help Dad find a new mom.”
Chen Yu rubbed Tuan Tuan’s little head and sighed.
“These aren’t things you should worry about! You just need to study well and practice your dancing.”
Suddenly, Tuan Tuan grabbed Chen Yu’s hand: “So as long as I behave and do well in studies and dance, you’ll consider letting Teacher Tong Ya be my new mom?”
Chen Yu was taken aback; honestly, Tong Ya was indeed nice, but he felt he wasn’t good enough for her.
Just as Chen Yu was unsure how to answer, the material delivery master arrived.
“Oh, boss, how booming is your business? You just got the supplies yesterday morning, and they’re already sold out? And today you’ve even doubled the order, can you really sell all that?”
Chen Yu smiled politely: “I’ve just purchased a new trailer, if we don’t sell out, we can store the leftovers!”
The material delivery master glanced at the brightly lit trailer behind and didn’t say much else, simply helping Chen Yu unload all the supplies.
No sooner had he sent off the masters, Chen Yu saw a white car drive over and park steadily beside the food cart.
Then, Tong Ya elegantly stepped out of the car.
“Hey, Teacher Tong Ya? What brings you here?” Chen Yu was somewhat surprised.
Tong Ya shook her phone: “Someone didn’t reply to my messages last night, I thought something might have happened to you two sleeping in the food cart, so I came over early to check.”
Chen Yu was slightly stunned and hurriedly took out his phone, only then noticing there were over a dozen messages from Tong Ya.
“Tuan Tuan’s dad, are you asleep?”
“Make sure Tuan Tuan gets to bed early; she has a dance competition tomorrow.”
“You’ve had a long day too, so get some sleep early!”
“Can I come over early tomorrow to help out? It’s on the way to picking up Tuan Tuan anyway.”
…
Looking at the string of messages, Chen Yu suddenly felt embarrassed.
He had been so exhausted yesterday that he had fallen asleep as soon as he lay down.
“Oh, I really apologize! Went to bed early yesterday, didn’t see the messages, and my phone is old too, sometimes there are no notifications at all!”
Tong Ya folded her arms behind her back, forcibly hiding her embarrassment.
“No worries! How about you give me your first batch of fried cakes as an apology?”
“No problem!”
Chen Yu hurried back to the food cart, beginning to prepare the fried cakes.
