Chapter 237 - Chapter 237: Chapter 237: The Residential Gardener (2/2)

Jin Lingsu’s eyes widened in astonishment, “Hey, you two are breaking the rules, ganging up on me, an outsider. I’m at least a guest, for goodness’ sake. You should show some hospitality. Besides, your husband promised to cook for me for ten days.”

Chen Yu raised an eyebrow, “This late at night, what dinner? ”

He said dismissively and then took Tong Ya back to their room, with Tuan Tuan hopping along behind them.

Jin Lingsu sat on the sofa with a sulky expression, like one who had been wronged.

Just as she was about to go to sleep, a strange rustling sound suddenly came from the bushes outside.

Her sharp instincts made Jin Lingsu jump up and rush outside without a second thought.

When she stepped outside, she saw a middle-aged man sneakily swinging a hoe under the arhat tree in the backyard, apparently digging something.

“What are you doing?”

Jin Lingsu shouted and dashed over, kicking the man in the back of his head and knocking him out cold on the ground.

Chen Yu too hurried out, “What happened?”

Jin Lingsu clapped her hands dismissively, looking down at the middle-aged man lying on the ground.

“Caught a thief. This guy seemed like he was about to steal your arhat tree!”

Chen Yu’s frown deepened when he saw the middle-aged man.

He knew this person; he was the community gardener.

Recently, the arhat trees in the community were diseased, and the gardener, afraid of disturbing the residents during the day, quietly came out to tend to them in the dead of night.

Chen Yu sighed in exasperation, “Who would blatantly come to the community to steal an arhat tree at night? This is a communal worker.”

After explaining briefly, Chen Yu took out two needles and pricked them into the gardener’s nape.

Before long, the middle-aged man stood up groggily.

“What happened? I feel like someone hit me on the back of my head with a hammer!”

Chen Yu coughed lightly, “Master Wu, it’s very dangerous for you to work at such an hour. If we hadn’t arrived on time to rescue you, the consequences could have been grim!”

As he spoke, Chen Yu picked up a broken flowerpot. He had broken it on the spur of the moment while rushing to help.

Master Wu didn’t say much, obviously believing the explanation.

“I had no choice, really. Since that’s the case, I’ll let it go for today and go rest.”

After seeing Master Wu off, Chen Yu too breathed a sigh of relief.

“Sis, now that you’re collaborating with the relevant departments and have obtained a legitimate identity, you should get to know the life of a normal person. You can’t go around acting rashly like this. If something really happens one day, your legitimate status will be in jeopardy.”

Jin Lingsu looked indignant, “I’ve been through so much over the years, and now I have to be schooled by you, kid?”

Grumbling to herself, Jin Lingsu went back to her room, albeit in an exaggerated way—she actually went out the window.
