Chapter 400 - Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Scorpion Man (1/2)
Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Scorpion Man
Chen Yu didn’t stand on ceremony and had the proprietor change to the best room while also setting a table with top-grade food and drink.
He hadn’t actually had a proper meal since arriving here, but just as everyone was about to sit down and eat, a few noisy sounds suddenly erupted from outside.
An extremely ugly man was rolling on the ground outside the inn, with many scorpion-like bugs continually burrowing out from inside his body.
The diners inside were terrified and hastily ran out from their rooms, some even wielding flamethrowers intending to kill the scorpions.
However, the proprietor hurried out and stopped everyone.
“Don’t touch him, he’ll be gone in two hours,” he exclaimed.
About half of the guests were completely baffled. How could they let such a filthy man, covered in bugs, lie there and not worry about it affecting business?
Yet there was still a considerable number of patrons who seemed unfazed by the sight and continued to eat and drink to their own content.
When Chen Yu heard the commotion, he too stepped out, and his brows furrowed when he saw the man lying at the entrance.
This kind of person, he had seen before in the laboratories of the Knights of the Round Table.
It began with altering certain genetic components within the body and then introducing specific bugs that would completely transform the human body.
Most of these test subjects were volunteers, primarily bodyguards from the families of the Knights of the Round Table members.
These individuals were utterly devoted to their masters, would do anything asked of them, and unafraid to sacrifice their lives; hence, they were the ideal specimens for experiments.
Fortunately, the Knights of the Round Table’s technology was quite advanced, and those who participated in the experiments had never suffered any accidents; moreover, they each acquired varying degrees of supernatural powers.
Chen Yu casually flipped the Token in his hand and walked straight over. As soon as the ugly man saw Chen Yu, he immediately leaped up from the ground and bowed respectfully.
“Mr. Chen, I was sent especially to welcome you upon hearing of your arrival,” he said.
Chen Yu rolled his eyes.
“I’ve been here for quite some time, and I’ve even fought in a tournament! Are you really that slow to react?” he asked.
The man’s expression did not change as he pulled out a specially made iron plate from his possession.
“This object is to be used in conjunction with the purple-red identity plate in your hand. Here, you can do as you wish with it,” he informed.
Chen Yu took the plate directly without a word of thanks.
“Are there any other special items?” he asked.
The man was initially stunned, then quickly produced a ticket from his person.
“The plate you have is already a pass for this place. Additionally, this is from Mr. Fox. He requests that you visit the underground antiques street on the third level at two o’clock in the afternoon.”
Chen Yu was somewhat surprised. The expanse of Dongming Canyon was so limited; how could they have set aside an entire street just for antique dealings?
Before he could inquire further, the man had already turned and left, with the scattered scorpions also dissipating along with him.
The inn’s patrons breathed a sigh of relief; they had never witnessed such a scene.
Chen Yu glanced at the invitation in his hand and then turned to go back to his room.
He didn’t have the slightest bit of fondness for the Knights of the Round Table right now, in fact quite the opposite; he felt disdain, and he didn’t even want to attend the event they had invited him to.
Hardly had Chen Yu sat down when Victor immediately leaned over from across the table.
“I didn’t expect you to receive such treatment upon your arrival in Dongming Canyon. That antiques street is incredibly special here, and many desire to visit but can’t,” he said, envy clearly etched on his face as he pulled out several photos.
Victor had done extensive research on Dongming Canyon upon his arrival, including on that antiques street. It was said that everything sold there comprised treasures lost over centuries.
It was rumored that some items sold there couldn’t be found anywhere else in the outside world.
Chen Yu’s interest was immediately piqued; since he was free anyway, he might as well go have a look.
Jin Lingsu also got excited and hastily came up to Chen Yu’s side.
