Chapter 419: Chapter 419: The Green Slate
The caravan dared not stop at all along the way and, guided by the map, quickly reached a fairly flat basin.
Although driving at night in the desert was dangerous, with the “System” by his side, Chen Yu didn’t find it too troublesome.
However, the magnetic field in this place was so strange that sometimes even the “System” was affected.
Therefore, they had no choice but to set up camp in this basin first.
In some ways, this place was very remote and not far from the ancient city of Muda; it would only take a day to get there.
Moreover, there was an underground watercourse flowing past the edge of the basin, which meant they could easily solve their water source problem.
“Brother Chen, you don’t think those guys will chase us here, do you?”
Luo Sanpao was somewhat worried. The journey so far had truly scared him.
All sorts of dangers were endless, even for a seasoned veteran like him who could hardly defend against them all. If it weren’t for Chen Yu by his side, he probably would have died several times over.
Chen Yu took a moment to regulate his breathing and picked up some firewood to toss into the nearby fire.
“I can’t guarantee that, the small town gathers too many forces, some of which might have already chosen to move toward the ancient city. They just don’t dare to travel rashly at night; maybe we can still buy some time.”
Luo Sanpao nodded, took a piece of mutton from the pot, took a bite, and then went down to arrange for his men to keep night watch.
The Lakato Family’s people didn’t dare be careless. They informed Luo Sanpao of all their personnel, weapons, and equipment, and the two sides cooperated seamlessly.
Chen Yu sighed deeply and retrieved a sleeping bag to lie down against a sand dune.
This was an open basin with no caves or anywhere to hide, so they could only set up tents in the open air.
This made it easy to give away their position, and if someone was really coming up from behind, they would be in danger.
Chen Yu slapped his head and called out Ling Ling’s name several times, but there was no response at all. The “System” had been disrupted since entering this basin, often failing to make accurate scanning judgments.
It had now entered a dormant state.
Chen Yu was somewhat frustrated, but there was nothing more he could say, so he rested for a while.
The night passed without disturbance, and at the break of dawn the next day, Luo Sanpao, along with a few of his trusted followers, began packing up the camp.
The Lakato Family’s members drove their trucks from the perimeter to the site.
Just as everyone was preparing to leave, a great cloud of dust arose in the distance, and a vast fleet of vehicles approached, with many helicopters circling in the sky.
No one knew how those guys managed to bring helicopters to this place.
Chen Yu’s eyes narrowed, clear in his mind that they could no longer stay in this place.
“Everyone, depart immediately!”
He issued a command, jumped into the lead vehicle, and led everyone toward the direction of the ancient city.
The closer they got to the ancient city, the more severe the magnetic disturbance became.
All of the caravan’s instrument panels and electromagnetic equipment lost their functions, and Chen Yu’s “System” remained unresponsive.
At that moment, a series of explosions came from behind them.
The helicopters that had been circling in the sky lost their bearings due to the magnetic interference, and the weapons they carried detonated out of control.
The once orderly and majestic caravan was suddenly thrown into chaos.
Chen Yu didn’t bother with that but had the person in the rear seat running a megaphone, shouting to the caravan to be careful.
After an indeterminable amount of time, they finally arrived at some ruins.
According to the markings on the map, this place is the legendary Mutuo ancient city.
But a great number of ruins lay scattered before them, instilling an inexplicable sense of grief and indignation.
